Hello Friends,

It has been a while since I last visited this site. So how is everyone doing? Hope everything is fine at your end. Anyway after a long wait my parents are finally planning on coming to the US for the first time (at least we are hoping). Anyway here is my story in 2002 I got married to my wife in a court house and then in 2003 we got married in a hotel and for the wedding we invited my parents of course they went to the US consulate in Bombay, India to get the visa and the consular rejected their application saying “ your son does not have a status in the US and hence you can’t go” He also continued saying “ if your son had a green card I would be more then happy to approve your visa application but sorry I cant now” and that was it. (I got my green card in 2005 in 2003 my status was AOS). My parents are both above the age of 60 and my dad owns a company and a house in Bombay they have no intention of staying here they are just coming here as tourists and so they have very strong ties in Bombay. Of course me and my wife will send whatever documents are demanded by the US consulate (like sponsorship/invitation letter, my green card and passport copies, tax papers anything they want) my dad is financing this trip of his own money he does not even need our financial support. They will have their interview soon and I want them to be ready and be perfect for their interview. Now 1) my wife’s best friend works for the US State Dept in DC and I am sure if my wife talks to her she will be ready to write a letter of recommendation for my parents to the consulate in Bombay. 2) Also my wife’s uncle works for the NSA and if I talk to him even he will give me a recommendation letter. Now my question to you lovely people is what exactly can they say in this letter? Any idea? 3) Also the US congressman of my county was very helpful to me to get my name cleared with the FBI when I was stuck in a never ending Name check process to get my green card. Is there anything he can do? May be a letter saying something? I just don’t know what he might say in the letter any ideas? My parents really don’t need any more sponsorship letters or affidavits as my parents are more then capable of taking care of the costs and expenses of travels and fees etc etc + they have me and my wife’s family if needed even if more is needed. My wife thinks I am going overboard and thinking too much. Well my parents were rejected in 2003 and I really don’t want to take any chance this time with my parent’s application for visa I want them to visit the US this time. They have been to more then 20 countries without any problems for visa across the world (except US) also of course I want them to see our great land and enjoy the life here for few weeks. Any of your helpful suggestions and opinions are welcome. As always thanking you guys in advance.

Raju

Ps: Here is what I really think happened in 2003 interview of my parents. I really don’t think it had anything to do with my status at that time. I just think that the officer thought that since they have a son in the US they might decide not to leave the US. My status at the time was AOS which is completely unrelated to my parents case all they were saying were that they wanted to join their son’s wedding and all he said was “ your son does not have a status and so I cant give you visa”. I mainly think it was because he thought they were PROSPECTIVE IMMIGRANTS. What do you guys think?

I am sure you are right.

Hello Boiler, diadromous mermaid,

Thank you so much for your response.

PS: Does anyone know how to get a letter of recommendation from a congressman, what would the content be? Format? I am planning to get letters of Recommendation from my wife’s friend and my wife’s uncle. Any idea what the format and content should say? Thanks as always friends.

You have 3 to chose from, usually they all have staffers who deal with Immigration issues, I would start there.

I am sure that they have a format letter, I can not honestly see what difference it would make at the interview stage.

As far as the others are concerned I am guessing something on the lines of how nice it would be to have them visit and a shame that they MUST go back. After all that is the real issue in all of this.
