Good Morning, I Killed Your Mailbox

Just had a knock on the door...too early for FedEx.

Oh, it's a young blonde woman....must have the wrong address.

Oh, there's an older guy pulling the remains of my mailbox out of the ground.

She tells me she was turning the corner, and someone didn't stop, and she had to

run over my driveway, over my lawn, and kill my mailbox.

But her father will fix it by the afternoon.

There is very little snow on the ground...hasn't snowed since last night.

She was driving an SUV.

I think the only reason I didn't totally go off on her was because of her thick Russian or

Polish accent (probably more Polish). I guess I was imagining the first time my

wife gets into a collision. I'd hope that someone would be calm, and ask if she's alright,

rather than yelling like a maniac.

But I did "want" to yell like a maniac.

It's nearly 8am here...this is the time kids are on their way to school.

Thanks...I just wish she'd figured that out before turning the corner.

...and I've gotta drive into the city today...in a rear wheel drive car.

At least it wasn't worse...could have hit a car in your drive way instead or the house! When I was a kid someone actually took out the fence in a front yard. Anyway hopefully it will be fixed this afternoon as planned.

Situations usually turn out better if you imagine yourself (or loved a one) in the same position. Good job keeping your cool.

Fortunately we've got a fairly long drive way, with the house setback quite a bit.

If she'd made it near the cars in the driveway, it would HAVE to have been intentional, or sliding at 50mph.

But yeah...I'm just glad it wasn't one of the kids or someone.

Many people would have driven on without telling you. She made a mistake, owned up to it and is going to have it fixed, what more can one ask for? Well, apart from not having it broken in the first place...

MC, I'd ask that she have better driving education before being awarded a license, and that she drive slower during seasons of in-climate weather.

This may not have been intentional, but it was no accident. If she'd driven appropriately, she could've avoided the incident completely.

Sure, I'm happy that I live on a block with honest neighbors...but still too many teenagers driving too fast even when it's dry.
