Just wanted to share my experience with everyone. I mailed in my N-400 application on 9/13/08 and had my citizenship interview this morning (12/3). That was a quick turnaround. The appointment time was 9:05AM at the Chicago office. I checked in at 8:30am and was finally called in for an interview at 9:50am. The officer couldn't have been nicer. She first apologized for the delay and made me raise my hand and swear that I would be telling the truth. She gave me a choice between the old and the new test. When I mentioned that I would go with the old one, she was thankful because apparently she is not very confident with the new test herself. She mentioned that I need to get at least 6 out 10 questions right. After I answered the first 6 correctly, she stopped me right there. After that she checked out all the paperwork that I had already submitted as part of the initial application process, asked a few standard questions like if I was affiliated with the communist party, if I had ever been arrested etc. She didn't even ask for any of the originals from me. Five minutes later, she mentioned that I had passed the interview and that they would set up an oath ceremony date within a week or two. Once I was done with the interview (which lasted 15 minutes), I was asked to go to the waiting room until my name was called. When my name was called, the lady checked my green card and handed me a sheet that basically informed me that my oath ceremony was on 12/11.

All in all it was a pretty painless experience. The toughest part was being in the waiting room and wondering as to when I was going to be called in for the interview.

Where are you from, roughly, and how did you get to downtown Chicago? Is a lot nicer today than a year ago and was certainly a lot nicer coming home last week with my wife having a US passport, finally treated with some respect.

Oh, and we didn't have to record that trip for the first time.
