I will be sponsoring both my parents as the principal sponsor for each even though I am married. My plan was that because I earn enough meet the poverty guidelines on just my wages ,this would be easier. However, my husband and I file joint tax returns. Does this mean I have to use my husband as a joint sponspor or can I just go ahead and file on my own? I know I don't have to if I meet the poverty guidelines but if my tax returns reflect a dual income will that matter?

DS 230 and documents sent 2009-03-27

IV packet delivered to NVC 2009-03-30

If you are sponsoring based on just your income, then it does not matter whether the taxes are filed jointly or not, you can go ahead and sponsor as an individual. If you are sponsoring your parents based on both yours and your husband's income, then both of you will have to sponsor (joint sponsors).
