Well, it's another slow day of approvals at USCIS, so we can at least take a moment to say goodbye to our beloved interim director, Jock Scharfen, a fond farewell as he leaves his office today as head of USCIS. The story is below.

http://www.dhs.gov/xnews/releases/pr_1228315709873.shtm

Word is he will be hired by McDonald's as Executive Vice President for drive-thru lane delivery efficiency. We wish you well, Jock-o.

I am grateful for Jock’s service to our nation during his tenure at the department as well as his distinguished 25-year career as a U.S. Marine. On behalf of the department, I thank him for his many contributions to really screwing up the whole system. At this time I wish to appoint an unknown contract worker that will really really screw things up for us petitioners so maybe we have to wait much longer than a year. I am looking forward to all the denials I and my staff can perform during the 2009 year. SEMPER FI

For Immediate Release

Office of the Press Secretary

Today is Jock Scharfen’s last day as Acting Director for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Jock has demonstrated remarkable dedication to this department during his tenure as Acting Director and as Deputy Director, and has helped guide the agency’s transformation into a 21st century service-driven organization.

Jock has made lasting contributions to homeland security, including processing a record number of naturalization petitions, effectively eliminating the FBI name check backlog, and welcoming thousands of Iraqi refugees that supported the U.S. overseas.

I am grateful for Jock’s service to our nation during his tenure at the department as well as his distinguished 25-year career as a U.S. Marine. On behalf of the department, I thank him for his many contributions to improving the services we provide legal immigrants and in naturalizing thousands of new U.S. citizens.

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

If you really think the process of bringing someone over to this country should be somewhere on the same playing field as whipping up hamburgers and slinging them out the window, then that's 95% of YOUR problem with the Service.

come on now i know i did not just read effectively getting rid of the back log of security checks at FBI right?

The namecheck backlog referred to in the article isn't the same process as your fiance' is undergoing, Sarah. Sorry to say.

plz can u tell me what the difference is?

The process referred to in the article is the one used for adjustment of status and naturalization. It's been discussed at length a lot on this board and all over the web. Here is an old (not my best link) that explains that process.

http://www.fbi.gov/page2/nationalnamecheck.htm

What you are undergoing is most likely the unfortunate happenstance of being selected (at this stage of the process) for some extra scrutiny of your entire petition, and not just the beneficiary (as is the case in FBI namecheck). Whether or not security checks such as Visa Mantis or Visa Condor apply to your case, I cannot say. Some of the girls in MENA may be able to tell you if this could be effecting the stateside portion of your process.

They have a revolving door at USCIS. Wasn't this director was relatively new?

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.
