My Chinese fiancee Tracy and I will get married soon in China. We want to know if wedding photos (friends and family, red table cloths, etc) are absolutely necessary when submitting the CR-1 petition. Her immediate family completely disapproves of her moving to America, and we're not sure whether there will be a big wedding celebration. Is it okay if we simply have the marriage certificate? Be advised that I've traveled to see her in China 9 times over the past 2 1/2 years. We already applied, and she was APPROVED, for a K-1 fiancee visa back in June 2007. Unfortunately, because of her family problems, she couldn't come on the K-1. That visa expired on 12/31/07. She requested an extension, and GUZ approved a 6-month extension to June 2008. Unfortunately, her brother DESTROYED her U.S. visa and passport in June, just before she was ready to come. We contacted GUZ and told them the situation and asked for another extension and visa reissuance. They told us to put the request in writing. We submitted this 2nd extension request to GUZ in July 2008. GUZ denied it in August 2008. They said they would grant only one extension, and they suggested we apply for a new visa.

So now, Tracy and I are ready to just get married in China and do a CR-1. We have abundant proof of the relationship dating back to April 2006, including proof of 9 trips (the most recent 3 weeks ago), photos, telephone bills, emails, letters, etc.........and soon a marriage certificate.

Is this enough to begin the process for a CR-1? I very much hope wedding photos aren't going to be absolutely necessary. (I've posted this also to CandleForLove)

We'll take as many photos as possible. I just want to know if GUZ will frown on not having the family's blessing.

moving this to CR-1 forum

btw.. your profile says K-1 ;)

good luck!

thanks. Yes, I know it said K-1. That's what our visa was initially (the one that was approved). I've changed it to CR-1.

We had the witness take some photos of the ceremony iwth my digital and then the front desk clerk at the hotel took some photos on the hotel grounds. I am hoping that is sufficient because we had no family or friends with us.

Janet

Good luck

Oddly enough, we didn't take but 2 photos on our wedding day- they were with hubby's cell phone! Only one of his brothers and his close friend were witness to our marriage, HOWEVER his family did throw us a "reception" two days after we married, as that was their Friday... :ot2: I would have someone, ANYONE take photos for you at the ceremony esp if her family is not supportive! If they can see how happy you are, your chances are better, I wouldn't tell them that her family isn't supportive, unless directly asked!

I am not an expert, I am still anxiously awaiting NVC to finish our case and sent to his embassy... so you have the advice I have been given too-- MANY MANY PHOTOS, the rest is very good, but PHOTOS are what they seem to base their decisions on!

Hi there,

wedding photos aren't absolutely necessary. We didn't send any wedding photos with our I-130 application, just 2 affidavits signed by our friends confirming bona fide of our marriage.

Our I-130 application was approved in 2 months at USCIS California and sent to NVC.

Good luck

Hello,

Don't worry.

Just take what photos you can and keep what ever documentation you can while you wait. Get the support of your side of the family for any proof. They can write to her. Get with your bank and what ever else you can before you leave and tell them of your pending marriage and get the forms she needs to sign to put her on your accounts, if you can. Keep all coorespondance throughout your wait and copies of all docs concerning your visit. Just be honest about her family if they ask. As long as you two have a valid relationship, her family should not matter. You are both adults. If you can try to smooth things over while you are there, like promise to visit often. It seems like you already have. It is hard for parents to have their children move to another country, so try to understand. I do think it is cruel to stand in the way by destroying passports and visas!
