How to renew JA passport from the US

First of all, I used these sites for info:

http://www.jamaicanconsulatechicago.org/passport.htm

http://www.congenjamaica-ny.org/passports....sport%20(Adults):

http://www.embassyofjamaica.org/CITobtainingapassport.htm

I used this form:

http://www.embassyofjamaica.org/EmbassyofJ...Application.pdf

along with documentation:

2 passport size pictures taken at SEARS PHOTO STUDIOS.....Please call the embassy in D.C. if you do not have a Sears in your area. They have a list of acceptable photo places. WALGREENS is NOT acceptable. The back must be signed and dated on both pictures. And, one must be signed (not stamped) by the notary who signed the passport application form under the statement "I certify that this is a true photograph of ........."

Make sure there is not a smidge of glare on the photo. Believe me when I say this and save yourself a headache. Not one teeny tiny bit! There are also a few other rules to follow on it that you can find on the form guidelines.

Certified JA Birth Certificate

Certified Marriage Certificate

Copy of his Missouri Driver's license, Green Card, and Health Insurance cards. I had the notary say they were exact copies of the originals and notarize the copy.

Copy of NOA1 on the Lifting of Conditions. Same thing, I had the notary say they were exact copies of the originals and notarize the copy.

I did some of that to prove he was legally able to continue living in the US. I didnt' want any questions.

International Postal Money Order for $104. That is $90 for the passport renewal and $14 for the only shipping they offer, FedEx.

I mailed it all Express Mail (so it wasn't floating around the country too long) to:

Embassy of Jamaica

1520 New Hampshire Ave., NW

Washington, D.C. 20036

We had issues with the photos having a glare on his forehead, so two weeks later, we got it back with a note to get new one's made. Andre also had to call the Embassy for her to basically read the instructions to him.

3 weeks and a few days after I returned new photos to them, he had his new passport in the mail. We got it yesterday. It looks so different. And, it's good till 2018......WOO HOO!!!!

Oh, and BTW, even though the FedEx envelope said it was to be signed for, they just dropped it in the door. I wasn't extremely happy with that. Far to important not to be more careful with it. The embassy did return all the documents I sent with the application.

If anyone has any questions, please ask.

Good luck to anyone who tries this.

We did, my friend and I early this year. She was robbed and lost all of her documents. She didn't know what else to do, so I took her there. They were very helpful.

Get on that then, Gilly. It was relatively painless. And, NO, never ever done. Good luck.
