Do most truckers take illicit drugs to stay awake on the road?

Oh and if a woman is wearing a short skirt or low cut top can you see her panties or cleavage from up there?

GOD I HOPE SO!

Usually a car is gone in the blink of an eye, so there's really no time.

Why exactly are there so many jobs available in trucking and so few job seekers willing to take up the occupation.

For your next career you mentioned teaching English in Vietnam. I taught in Taiwan for 2 years and it was memorable but it was time to move on. I doubt you'd want to be a trucker in Vietnam after seeing some poorly maintained potholes with bits of road around them.

The life is hell and the pay isn't great, but I wonder sometimes too. It's just not the job for everybody. Companies spend thousands trying to bring people in and then do everything they can to drive them out the door. There are things that they get way with, legally, that would never float in any other occupation. An example is mileage based pay. In a freight hauling job I may get a load that dispatch says is 1000 miles. After I run it the actual mileage is 1200. This is what is known as "Dispatch Miles" or "Short Miles". It's common.

I've been to Vietnam, so I've seen the roads and rigs that were obviously imported from here. NO THANK YOU! I'll make due with teaching if I feel the fit is right.

Something that always freaks me out a bit when I am making my road trips to the rents house is being honked at by truckers as I pass (yep confessed speeder here) - have t-tops and my 65lb dog in the passenger seat - always signal and stay in mirror range before making the pass, but it never fails - as soon as I get the nose of my car past the cab, the driver blows his horn and me and my dog jump outta our seats! Why do they do this to me???? Been wondering this for 15 years now......

Thanks!

I'm assuming you're not hard on the eyes!

Joe,

How many 'trucker bombs' do you throw out the window daily?

LS

FINALLY! I was sure that would be the first question. Answer: ZERO. That really pisses me off (pun intended). I hate litterbugs. We have a bad enough reputation as it is. Do I pee in a jug sometimes? Yes. Do I dispose of it properly? Yes.

LOL

I've pee'd in a jug before too. I throw nothing out my window. When I rode motorcycle I hated people that threw cigarette butts out the window.

I hate the cigarette thingy too!

Well, thank you! And I always thought it was my dog! LOL!

BTW - cigarette butts are litter too! Got enough of that on the roads! Use an ashtray or quit smoking!

I just noticed your pic. Both of you are honk worthy! If you're wondering, that's not me pictured! It's my idea of a joke.

Are baseball caps and big buckles part of the unofficial trucker uniform?

Is it a myth that truckers know where all the good places to eat are?

While there are many that prefer that uniform, mine is jeans and t shirts.

I just ate the worlds worst cheeseburger, so that should answer the other question! You do end up knowing/finding good spots around the Country though.

Thanks for making me late for my appointment....GREAT thread.

Going back to the first page...I can't believe anyone would be stupid enough to "Brake Check" a semi.

Tailgating a semi is equally as stupid....but at least you're only risking your life.

I remember being pissed off recently hearing about the friggin' moped rider that brake checked a garbage truck,

causing the fatal collision of a school bus full of kids.

People on mopeds violating any traffic law should just be shot. No questions asked, no trial needed.

Get to work before you end up behind the wheel of one of these!

That is the only time someone has done it to me and hopefully it will never happen again.

One more - on some semi's there is a small window near the bottom of the door. What is that window for?

so they can see vehicles next to them.

Isn't that what the mirror is for. I think its for staring down girls shirts when they're stopped at a light. Especially if they're in a convertible.

Do you have a "How's my driving?" sticker on your truck and has anybody ever had anything to say to your employer?

No sticker. My employer is in Jersey. They would tell them to go F themselves! It would have to be really serious before I would hear anything about it. Besides, I'm a perfect driver!

Its the only reason I asked the drug question.

 Mission accomplished!

are truck driving tests as difficult as this one?

I'd never get there on time!

Call it dual purpose then!

There's an amazing amount of blind spots on these. Everything helps. There are rigs out now that have side view cameras. I would LOVE to have one.

Figured that out! (your pic)

and I'll quit freaking out and start waving instead! Never pass on a compliment and too many truckers have helped me out on the side of the road, (flat tires, transmission fluid on fire...etc) So thanks!

Silly me always thought they were trying to draw my attention to something (flat tire, gas cap open, transmission on fire etc)!

But 700+ miles seems to numb my mind! I live in LA and the rents are in OK.

Happy Driving!
