I am preparing in advance two DS 230 for both of my parents for them to sign and return to me. They have given me the info and I have typed it all up etc. Question 34 on the form asks if they have had any help filling the form in . Well, they have from me and it would be easy to simply tick yes and fill in my name , especially as it is my intent to act as their agent on the DS 3032. However, I have read that if you are not a lawyer etc its better to tick no. What are the implications if I do tick yes? Will it matter either way?

Because I am in the USA and they are in Cyprus, I would also like for them to presign the DS 3032 which I can download now without having to wait for it to be sent, so that is ready when the request comes. Can I do this now or is there a barcode or something that will be present on the one they send and I would only end up having to send it out to Cyprus again. I know they will get one their end as well, but there postal service is somewhat unreliable and I was hoping to get it signed now with plenty of time to spare.

Lastly, I will have to send original documents with the DS 230 to the NVC and it says they will get them back at their interveiw, however I have also seen that original documents used for the petition must be taken to interveiw. How can you do both? Will I also have to send them my original birth certificate, naturalisation certificate and marriage certifcate to prove our relationship for interveiw even though we don't live in the same country as they were used to support the original petition?

(Please note we have taken our time and we could have gone faster with the NVC)

I have 2 petitions running at the same time, I have not posted 2 sets of dates because they have been processed either together or a few days of each other.

DS-230 is the main reason why I have long delayed on my Mom visa process.Take me forever to complete them and really make sure everything is right and I send it in Philippines so she can sign it and let them sign the DS 3032 and let them send it to NVC.I check yes on question 34 since I am Mom Agent.Yes you got to send original documents with DS-230 to the NVC.Make sure to tell your parents to get 2 to 3 original copies of each documents. It;s always nice to have original copies on hand.

Yes, that's exactly how I did it with my husband because he wasn't fluent in English when we filled it out. Since we couldn't save the form, we connected via MSN messenger and I walked him through it. He put my name down as the person who helped him fill it out, printed it, signed part I and sent it to me with the required documents.

You will need for the NVC to assign you a case # before you can do this since th DS-3032 has a barcode with their case numbers. You can also e-mail the NVC the Choice of Agent info and you can find out how to do it here.

You only need to send copies of the required documents along with their I-130s. Do not send original documents to the USCIS. You will however, need original or certified copies of the documents the NVC asks you to send with the DS-230. Also, it is very probably that you will never see these documents again after the interview, so if you think you will need them at a later time, it's best to get several original copies before they travel. You can also file a form to get them back from Immigration once they arrive but I'm not sure how effective it would be.

Are you saying that they won't get their orginal documents back at interveiw or ever again?!!! The NVC states that is when they will get them back. They can't just keep original documents surely, my parents orginal marriage certicate is 40 years old, its irreplacable. What is an "original copy" Do you mean a photocopy of the orginal document or a certified copy?

No, the only way to get them back is to file a form with the USCIS but I don't know how long it would take. But most people never see those documents again. I'm not sure how it works in your country but in most countries you can get a certified copy of the original document. This means that the government entity issuing the document is certifying that what they're giving you is a true copy of the original. These are the only copies accepted by the NVC.
