I'm so sick of spending between $25 and $35 for each printer cartridge. I mean I have 3 printers in my home and two of them take two cartridges each, one for black and one for color.

Where do you all shop for ink cartridges? They're almost as much as the printer!!! Any good deals that people know about?

Buy refill kits. Cheaper, cost effective. One cartridge is good to be refilled upto 5 times, if not more. I replace them after 5 refills.

Check this out.

Is it hard to do? I'm quite a technical idiot.

get a printer next time that has different cartridges for the color. that way you just replace the empty one instead of the whole thing.

Some corner stores refill ink cartridges. Well, they do in New York and for some reason I think CVS or Walgreens does it too.

I buy my ink from Walmart...

I buy the HP ink for my 30 dollar HP printer... my printer uses two cartridges but it will still work with just the colour cartridge... the colour cartridge costs around 20 bucks.. but you can get the colour and the black ink together for about 30 bucks... and the ink seems to last a long time..

we had a lexmark printer before that cost us around 30 bucks but the ink cost us around 50 bucks :o and the ink didn't last long at all...

For my wife's Epson found cartridges I like from ebay, seller is bigdrop423@hotmail.com that I am happy with, you would have to contact him to see if he has cartridges for your make of printer.

He sells the entire cartridge that is translucent, you can see the ink level, has a rubber cap and very easy to refill. Epson plus others new dirty trick is to install a chip in the cartridge, that after it reaches a certain count, the cartridge is history, no way to reset the counter, and the printer won't even work if one of the four cartridges reached their count.

His cartridges also have a chip that resets itself, but you have to pull each cartridge twice for that to happen, and he also sells refillable ink. I paid around 25 bucks for four cartridges with ink to refill each cartridge three times, Epson wants about 75 bucks for these same cartridges that is pretty steep for a hundred buck printer.

I have tossed 30 bucks printers after the sample cartridges ran dry, wanted to do a good job for the USCIS and print copies in color, folks in town refused to copy some of the documents even after I showed them the USCIS demanded them.

Steal 'em from work.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. Guy at my Officemax store told me their refills are #######, I like honesty. Chief problem with ink cartridges, they dry up and once they do, you are dead. Do prefer cartridges with the print heads installed, one thing I do not like about Epsons, but my wife liked the color. I paid an extra ten bucks for a two year replaceable warranty figuring if the heads to dry up, will just get a new one. I will.

Most are foam packed, I took a cartridge apart, that foam was like a rock and try different thinners to soften it up, I like to waste time at times. Many of the HP's have a hidden switch on the inside making it impossible to remove the cover, it resets the flashram causing the printer to lose it's brains, it's worthless unless you have the tools to reprogram it.

Most have a huge sponge on the bottom to collect all that ink during the cleaning process, that tells you where your money went which is one major reason I prefer lasers. And not the new ones made of all plastic, but the older ones with stainless steel shafts and real metal gears.

Printing photos can cost a small fortune, and as long as my local Walgreens store wants to do it for 19 cents a print, just e-mail a bunch of them and pick them up when I pass their store. Can't even buy the paper that cheap not to mention the cartridges.

What really tees me off, is that practically anything we buy today is throwaway, especially with the recycling #######, now I have to wash my trash and sort it first, and if larger, have to haul it and pay a fortune to get rid of it. Wasn't too long ago, you could actually buy all the parts for an appliance cheaper than the assembled floor model and put it together yourself the right way. Today if the heater and timer goes out on your clothes dryer, it's cheaper to buy a new dryer than even buy the parts finding the best price on the web and doing the work yourself. Electronics is a complete joke, God I hate cell phones, one drop of water on these damned things, they are history, no moisture protection, period, and such cheapa$$ integrated circuits, bastards burn out with moisture as a couple of cents was not spent to protect them, really a ripoff.

LOL@NickD

Anyway,

Many of the new printers has a built-in circuit to keep the ink warm. Some are not water saturated ink which makes them less evaporative. I just want to answer the question the OP have asked me. Yes, when you buy those kits they usually will come with a tool to allow you to drill a hole into the cartridge themselves or how to apply the refills. Before you buy, make sure you read the description if the package also includes the kit. If not, then buy one kit, and it'll last your forever.
