SEDALIA, Mo. – A hunter bagged a big buck on the second day of firearms season, but the kill caused him a lot of pain. Randy Goodman, 49, said he thought two well-placed shots with his .270-caliber rifle had killed the buck on Nov. 19. Goodman said the deer looked dead to him, but seconds later the nine-point, 240-pound animal came to life.

The buck rose up, knocked Goodman down and attacked him with his antlers in what the veteran hunter called "15 seconds of hell." The deer ran a short distance and went down, and died after Goodman fired two more shots.

Soon Goodman started feeling dizzy and noticed his vest was soaked in blood.

So he reached his truck and drove to a hospital, where he received seven staples in his scalp and was treated for a slight concussion and bruises.

Good!

all hunters should fight mano-a-mano w/o the help of any guns, arches, etc only if they pretend to eat the animal I'd say go ahead and use your toys. If it's just for pure "sport," that I don't see how this can be called SPORT, try to fight an animal and let the best win.

wow, that's crazy. i don't agree with hunting but what a terrible thing to happen to someone.

My son got his deer, but with two shots this time, first one was in the neck, but he saw the deer suffer, so quickly fired a second shot directly to it's head and killed it instantly. He does not like to see animals suffer. He takes the meat to a processing plant to make sausages, while I am not exactly a deer meat fan, they do taste pretty good.

Most of the deer in Wisconsin will starve to death in our ice cold winters and lack of greenery, the population is huge, so do not be too sympathetic. Any form of meat has to be killed, generally the quickest is way is to slit their throat and let them bleed to death, so quit eating meat if that bugs you. I am more of a fisherman myself.

oh i know they probably won't survive. i just... i'm a big girl i guess. i have to look away when an animal kills another one in a nature program.

i can't bring myself to kill things, not even spiders that come into my house which i'm really scared of, i always put em outside. i've stopped eating meat before but it isn't good for my health, i don't eat it every day and if i do i try and make sure its organic, only eat free range eggs, etc. ;)

I don't really have a problem with hunting. I'd like to think most hunters eat what they kill, instead of merely "bagging the best animal to hang on their wall." That's a waste. If both can be done, then fine.

My main concern with hunting isn't the animals, but the other hunters. I've known people who were accidentally shot by other hunters. They survived, but the entire ordeal couldn't have fun.

Tasty Tasty Venison. No luck for me yet this season but I have almost two more weeks to go. As for trophy hunting. If i get a nice buck I will get it mounted but the meat will be utillized as well. I love venison (deer meat).

I think this is a good case for requiring hunters to hunt in teams. Driving around with a head injury does not sound like the safest idea I have ever heard in my life.

Also the healthiest (to consumer--due to meat being blood-free) way, as well as tastiest; and exactly the basis-action of both kosher and halal.
