Absolutely not for a vacation. They're about $40 bucks a night, and for MEN only.

As for Akihabara being noisy, no more so than Shibuya (the area resembling Times Square, that's often depicted in films).

Most Japanese hotel rooms are considerably smaller than American hotel rooms, but sometimes you may be pleasantly surprised.

Like when we stayed at a hotel near Narita Airport, and ended up with a 2 room suite. Most times the rooms are quite modest,

like the hotel we stayed at in Hiroshima...there was no way the maid could clean the room while occupied.

But if you're into amenities, you'll love Japanese hotels. While the rooms are small, everything is done right.

For instance, the small room in Hiroshima had a washlet (aka Bio-Bidet aka toilet that sprays clean water to wash away the waste),

it also had the absolutely most stylish and functional shower tower (by Toto) that we'd ever seen. The shower tower had a sleek wand

for the hard to reach spots, a huge rain head, a well engineered temp control, AND 3 position-able water nozzles facing your body.

We were ready to order the $2K shower tower, but it's not sold in the US, and there are differences in plumbing.

Oh, you also get your own set of his & hers pajamas, slippers, tooth-brushes, tooth paste, hair brush, lotion, shampoo, soap, and even disposable razors. Those are the basic amenities you'll find at just about ALL Japanese hotels. I found out when staying in Mexico, that when the hotels have Japanese guests, they typically will add the PJs, slippers, razor, etc.

I'm in it now! I tour with Broadway and Rock shows for a living and unfortunately they don't provide us (the drivers) with hotel rooms. Most Semis come with a sleeper berth that has 2 beds.

I haven't seen that movie, but it got a 7.7 on IMDB. I'll have to check it out sometime.

Ahhh... memories...

Ironically, I remember Shibuya as a quiet zone since I hung out in a park area in the district. Never mind the huge train complex or the sprawling neon everywhere...

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

After visiting the website for the Capsule Inn Hotel, I think the idea behind this is for quick stop-overs and if someone needs a place to rest quick. It's not intended as a vacation-style hotel and isn't mean for long-term use.

Honestly, I can see how this would be a good thing. Since many people in Japan use public transportation, it's entirely possible those who work late or have been out partying would have missed their bus or train home. That's where this hotel comes in. It allows someone to stay overnight (or potentially however long they wish) at reduced rates and some extras added.

I wish most cities had something like this. If someone lacks any family or friends nearby and there's no way home, what're they going to do? Sleep at the office? The street? Find a homeless shelter? Seriously, this might keep some people from getting into trouble or worse yet, getting others into trouble.

Yeah, even for a nap I don't think I could do it. I'm extremely claustraphobic. The idea of laying down and having everything around me, in a pod...*shudder*...

I can see the benefit of it, but I couldn't do it.
