Well..we went to SSA office yesterday to apply for my SSN..

the lady told me I can't get my SSN if i'm not allowed to work, I thought i won't be able to get it but...

I showed her my I-94 which is valid till dec. 31 and i also have an EAD stamp at the back of it (my POE is JFK, maybe they're stamping EAD up to 90 days)..

so after showing her that, she finally get my papers and also our marriage cert..

now i'm just waiting for my ssn to arrive with my married name on it..

yehey!

ps.. ssn isn't required for AOS but just want to get it so my husband and I could open our joint bank account..

You waited too close to the expiration of the I-94. ( I think the max is around 45 days before expiration). Your EAD stamp is irrelevant, your K1 status entitled you to your SSN.

14 days... she is still eligible to apply

YMMV

Hi to all VJ members!!!

I would like to seek advice from you guys

We went to SSoffice and unfortunately they didn't issue me a SSN. I brought with me my marriage contract, birthcertificate and passport with visa with my MAIDEN NAME on it . I'm K3 by the way (but my name on my passport and visa is my MAIDEN NAME) .The lady there told me that I need to wait for my permanent resident visa to be approved with my new name or MARRIED NAME before they can issue me a SSN. Once the permanent resident visa is ok, they can issue SSN with my MARRIED NAME on it.

Also, Do I need an SSN before I can get a driver's license?

Lastly, can I work immediately once I have an EAD?

Advise pls

Thank you very very much.
