:help: HELLO EVERYONE, HAD A QUESTION I'M SURE WILL HELP OTHERS....

I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH AND READING, BUT I AM STILL CONFUSED AS TO WHAT EXACTLY GETS SENT BACK BY MY FIANCE TO THE CONSULATE AFTER PACKET 3 ARRIVES...(I AM THE USC)

IS IT ONLY THE DS-156'S, 157, 230...ETC THAT GET SENT? ( I'M HOPING WE CARRY ANY ORIGINALS WITH US TO THE INTERVIEW (I AM GOING))....AND THE I-134?? IS THAT CARRIED OR SENT...ALONG WITH MY ORIGINAL TAX DOCUMENTS TOO? PROOF OF RELATIONSHIP?

TO MAKE MY QUESTION SIMPLER.... I GUESS:

WHAT IS SENT BACK TO THE CONSULATE AND WHAT IS HAND CARRIED TO THE INTERVIEW?

AND A BONUS QUESTION: ....SORRY WHAT COMES IN PACKET 4?

THANKS SO VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE :D(L)

First, please don't type in all caps. It's hard on the eyes.

Each Consulate sends very specific instructions. Read them carefully, interpret them literally and then follow them exactly. In general the beneficiary simply checks the items on the list and sends the form containing the list back. Have you seen the instructions?

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

I apologize for the caps...

Yes, I have seen the instructions in English and they are vague. Yes there is a list of needed documents and I think it states to send EVERYTHING which is ridiculous as I am afraid to send originals via UPS and when all needed documents are obtained then an interview will be scheduled? Aren't originals to be taken to the interview? I want to make copies...anyway i am confused....please help

here's the instructions if you care to read them:

I don't find those instructions the least bit vague. They screen the documents ahead of time, so you send them all exactly as instructed. What part do you not understand?

I don't understand what the difference is between exactly which documents we need to send via UPS before our interview will be scheduled and which we are to bring to our interview...copies..originals...ds-146...I-134...it makes no distinction...just seems like 1 big documant jumble.......it only lists the sum total of all required documents needed to obtain the visa....I just don't see this clearly and neither does my fiance and reading comprehension is my strong point...maybe I am tired..I dunno...I give up for now......sigh

Hi Erika,

When Ozzy and I were going thru this portion of the process, he was confused too. This is what we did:

I completed all the paperwork that I could (I downloaded the forms from the Embassy website and filled them out for him while having an IM chat with him to verify I was putting the correct answers). The forms I complete for him were:

Form DS-230 Part I (“Biographic Data”),

Form DS-156 (“Application for a Nonimmigrant visa”) in duplicate

Form DS-156K (“ Nonimmigrant Fiance Visa Application”)

DS-157 (“Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application”)

Form I-134 (Affidavit of Support) with my most recent tax return

The last page on that link you sent is a form asking for contact information...I believe I filled and included that too...

I added:

My divorce certificate from my prior divorce

Proof of relationship including photgraphs of us together and printouts of our emails and IM conversations from the time we met until the present time (if you have phone records, include them too)

I mailed all those forms (prefilled) to him and instructed him where to sign. I also included a pre-addressed envelope for him to mail to the consulate.

I instructed him to add the following things:

A complete photocopy of his entire passport, cover to cover

One original and one certified copy of his birth certificate (the Nufus Kayit Ornegi) with English translation (hint: Ozzy went to a certified translator to have this translated into English and it was VERY expensive. If you are able to do it correctly, you can translate it yourself, which is what I did for his AOS and it was fine)

A police record, along with English translation

Two 2 x 2 photographs of the correct specifications

I highly recommend that you keep copies of everything and bring them with you to the interview. You may not need them but it'll make you feel better to have them :)

As for packet 4....I forget what's in it now, but I think it has to do with instructions for obtaining the physical exam....?

Best of luck :star:

PS: All you need to carry to the interview with you is:

Both of you need to have your passport with you

You must bring your receipt for the Visa fee, which you pay ahead of time

You must bring your appointment letter (I believe this comes in packet 4 also)

Bring the envelope from the medical exam (excluding the x-ray film)

Bring some means of paying for the visa delivery--for us I believe it was ~10 or 15 lira...?

Bring any additional evidence that you didn't already submit

If you wish, you may bring copies of everything you already sent...you just never know...

You do need to mail originals of the birth certificate and police report (they should be stamped similar to a notary stamp), and of course the affidavit of support has to be original and notarized...for everything else I believe copies are ok (however, if they specifically ask for originals, I would send them just to be safe). But definitely keep copies of everything for yourself and bring them with you to the interview if you wish! If you don't need them at the interview, you'll need the info again when you file for AOS...

One other thing, send a letter from your employer with the affidavit of support stating how much you make...being a new grad and all... :)

Oh and ha I love you too :)

You can translate...but I'd only recommend it if you're pretty confident about it. Ozzy and I collaborated on the project. He gave me a rough translation and I reworded it to make it sound nice and "official" :)

Just make sure you translate EVERY little notation and phrase on the document including headings and dates, etc. The Turkish birth certificates are quite a bit more involved than ours here in the US (they include every person in the immediate family including their religion, marriages, addresses, etc.), so it's a bit of an undertaking....it took us pretty much a whole day to get it right.

Also, attach a page that states something to the effect of " This document was translated from Turkish in to English by xxxxxxx, who do certify that I/we am/are qualified to translate this document by reason of my/our fluency in both English and Turkish and that this translation is true and correct" and sign and date it.

I think he paid over $200 to the translator...

Let us know if we can help in any way.

Thanks again Tanya....Ankara doens't even know how to give correct advice....geez...they forgot to mention the DS-156 (i think) needs to be printed online to generate a bar code... I specifically asked them this, but they said it was not neded????

However, the website says it IS...what idiots. I think they answer fast and carelessly due to a high volume of emails, but geez I won't depned on them fo answers. They said I could send all copies except for the I-134 of course and all the "DS documents of course. Should trust them? Oh my God what if they lose an original document!!!....wow

How did you manage to make it to there fo the interview with work and all?

I am hoping Ankara allows us some choice in the interview dates? Do you know anything about this? AND my work wants all requested time off by the 12th of his month for Janaury ad February...yikes!!!!

I have like $46,000 gross income to date for 2008, but for 2007 only 17,500 because I was a student. I want to wait for my new W2 on Janauary 20th because I am so afraid they will question my income from 2007. Isn't January 20th too far away? Would Ankara ever agree to an interview so far off (we haven't sent ny of the requested documents from packet 3 yet-I'm still paralyzed with indecision...lol We jut got this packet afew days ago.....

Help me...what should I do???

Frozen with indecision,

Erika

I'm going to post this in the Turkey foum and see what they think too....geez I seriously don't know what do and thank God for you and Visajourney. You are so sweet Tanya!

Wow, they are much more strict than BKK. You even have to translate everything into English. BKK accepts documents in both Thai and English...

Each consulate is unique. This is the only step of visa processing where there are broad differences regarding documents. It's fascinating and it's also good to remember when advising others. The experience for your consulate will not be the same as someone passing through another.
