How do you guys do taxes??

We're just wondering as my husband makes good money in the US and I do well here in Canada... we haven't even begun our Visa journey in earnest as we're waiting for our marriage cert first before we can even file. We just got married a couple of weeks ago.

I thought I had this figured out, but he's filing t here, I'm his wife, does he claim me? Do I claim him? If so, do either/both of us pay taxes on the others income? How will we be penalized? If at all and god... this needs to be easier. It's freaking out as he thinks that if we pick the married box on our respective tax forms, we'll have to be responsible for our own income plus our spouses...

Any help will be appreciated. If we claim each other, are there advantages? We both have very good incomes so... it's not like one of us isn't a wage earner, we both are and we're in the upper levels of wage earning so...

I just need some help if you all don't mind.

how does everyone else in our situation do it? What's the best way? Any help would be appreciated. PM me if you see fit.

Interview Assigned - December 3, 2009 - FINALLY!!

Medical - December 14, 2009 - Passed

Embassy/Interview - January 26, 2010 Montreal, Quebec Canada - 167 days PASSED!!!

Port of Entry - February 26, 2010 Baltimore International, Maryland

USCIS -- ROC package sent off

November 26, 2011 to Vermont station November 30, 2011 received NOA1December 16, 2011 received biometrics appointment.

January 04, 2012 Biometrics

September 2, 2012, RFE Received.

September 22, 2012 RFE responded to

October 15, 2012 ROC approved, 10 Green card on its way.
