Nerves

My son and I have our K1 and K2 interviews in 3 days, June 8th in Montreal. I have everything ready and have re-checked all the papers so much I am afraid they will be tattered soon. My question is how do you deal with the nerves? I know I shouldn't be a basket case but I am. So far other than Montreal being slow with the interview date it has been relatively quick and almost painless. Other than the separation. We haven't had any RFE's or anything. But I have been having nightmares that everything that can go wrong will go wrong. How did everyone else deal with it? Thursday afternoon can't come soon enough for me. To have this step behind us will be a relief.

Thank you both. Are you bringing you child to the interview? My son is just 2 and it's not required as far as I know but I am still undecided as to whether I will bring him. I'll wait and see what kind of mood he's in that morning. My fiance can't be here so my parents will make the trip with me to stay with him if I decide to leave him. But I think I may bring him just because he make me feel safe. LOL

I totally understand you being nervous. I was a wreck for my K-1 interview and couldn't even figure out how to use the parking meter near the Consulate. My fiance had to do it for me. It turned out to be nothing like I thought it would be like. It was much easier and less stressful that I envisioned. As long as you have all your paperwork in order, it's mostly just a waiting game at the Consulate.

Then, a year later, my K-2 daughter had her interview and I was as cool as a cucumber because I knew the procedure and the Consulate.

I am pretty sure you'll be saying exactly the same thing after your interview..... that it was a piece of cake and you can't imagine why you worried so much.

I am pretty sure your 2-year-old daughter does not need to attend the interview and because the waiting can be a problem, you might be better off to leave her behind. It's up to you, though.

You will be fine. It is very normal to be nervous because this is something that is so important to you. I had my interview in Montreal as well and the experience was very straightforward. Just remember that your relationship is an honest one and the interviewers are very experienced in recognizing the differences between nervousness and someone trying to get away with something. Breathe deep, remind yourself that you only have to get through three more days and then you will be rewarded:-). Why not look up more information on Montreal? Plan some things to do while you are there - Old Montreal is rather wonderful and well worth visiting, so see if you can fill your waiting time doing something that you can add to enhance your Montreal experience. Afterall - you and your parents will want to celebrate a little after your interview is successful.

Good luck and just keep taking deep breathes and reminding yourself it is ok to be nervous, - it just means that you are prepared to do your best.

Oh I have plans for the trip already. My daughter is in Quebec in St. Jean finishing her IAP she is attending the royal military college in Ontario. It's just a short ride from Montreal so I'm going to go stay in St. Jean after the interview and just drive back up for the visa Friday and stay in St. Jean until Saturday to spend some time with her. We haven't seen her since Feb so it will be wonderful. It's one of the things helping keep my mind off the interview for a few minutes at a time anyway.

Naw a massage would require sitting still and that is not likely to happen. Not with the bundle of nerves I am. Gotta keep moving.

I'm not taking my 10 year old cos she has school - if she was younger.. I wouldn't take her then either Kids get bored SOOOO fast and its MORE stressful trying to keep the little ones from running around, imo, than to sit alone.

As for nerves

Well theres only 2 ways it can go to my way of thinking.. and thats YES or No

If yes - well groovy!

If no - usually they give u leave to appeal or re-submit - so thats also groovy. (Obviously Im talking straightforward cases here)

Thing is - do you remember waiting for exam results to come thru?

Did it help that you worried yourself into an early grave? Or was your worrying completely seperate from what other people were doing, ie marking your exam.

My point is - stop.. you stressing and worrying can't change what will happen 3 days from now.

How lovely that you will be able to enjoy a visit together with your daughter. Yes, that will certainly make the occasion much more of a celebration. So your daughter is attending RMC in Kingston? That's my home town! Kingston is a wonderful city and I miss it very much. I haven't been back for three years now.

I notice your local office for the US is Atlanta. Where are you moving to in the States?

I'll be living in Montgomery Alabama. My daughter just finished her first year at RMC. We went up to see here in Kingston last September just before we filed. And it is an absolute beautiful place. We spent a few hours of down time from all the hoopla driving around. I'm sure living there you know all about the Reunion weekend festivities. She was last home the second last week of February. So it will be wonderful to see her again. Will make the wait for August when she gets her 2 weeks off more bareable. And if all goes well Thursday we have the wedding planned for when she is visiting.

Good luck at your interview. I had mine on May 09 and was also very, very nervous. Now I know that I shouldn't have worried that much. As long as you have all your papers and answer all questions truthfully you should be o.k.
