Skylar Deleon is the evil mastermind behind a chilling murder plot.

Deleon faces the death penalty following his conviction in October for tying a couple to the anchor onboard their yacht and throwing them into the water as they screamed for mercy.

Life should have turned out very differently for Deleon, a former child actor who appeared on TV's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Now his mother, Lynette O'Daniel is speaking out for the first time about the nightmare prospect of seeing her son sentenced to die.

When asked what she thought about the prospect, Lynette said tearfully, "You're looking for me to say, do I think my son deserve the death penalty. I'm sorry. I can't answer that."

Deleon's dreams of stardom following his Power Rangers career failed to materialize. The former child star joined the Marines, but was dishonorably discharged. He married his sweetheart, Jennifer, and they had two children together. But with no prospects and little education, he turned to crime for a fast buck.

"When he was younger he had a good heart and he would never, ever, hurt anyone," Lynette told INSIDE EDITION's Paul Boyd.

Yet Deleon and wife Jennifer hatched a plot to kill wealthy retirees Tom and Jackie Hawks. The Hawks had placed an ad to sell their 55-foot-yacht for $400,000.

Posing as buyers, Skylar and Jennifer went onboard the yacht at Newport Beach, California, to check out the vessel with two other alleged accomplices. The retired couple was overpowered, tied to an anchor, and thrown overboard.

The horror of what her son did weighs heavily on his mom. "We all know it wasn't right...but I am not his judge and jury. I'm his mom," said Lynette.

When asked what she wanted the victims' families to know, Lynette said, "You don't think that when I look in the ocean, that I don't think about the Hawks? I can't even hardly go by the boats anymore [...] because it hurts too much."

Jennifer Deleon has been sentenced to life without parole. The jury recommended the death penalty for Skylar Deleon; he will be sentenced in January 2009.

Lynette O'Daniel says she realizes the horrific nature of her son's crime, but continues to stand by him. "I feel like I let him down. I think we feel like we let each other down."

Skylar Deleon was not technically a Power Ranger. He was an extra on the show once. Not even a speaking part. He was not literally a Power Ranger, except possibly at Halloween. And people on the internet are very concerned that the “record be set straight” on that issue. But it’s not because they are fanboys without lives or anything.. .

Another faux child star gone bad. I don't know about the Marines but you have to screw up pretty bad to get a dishonorable discharge elsewhere in the military. Little education and your wife is a co-conspirator to murder- loser.

First defendant faces trial in Ham Radio couple's murder

Jennifer Deleon's trial has been severed from Skylar Deleon and John Kennedy

The trial of Jennifer Deleon, 24, of Long Beach, California, is scheduled to begin next week for the murder of amateur radio couple Thomas and Jackie Hawks, KD7VWJ and KD7VWK.

Jennifer Deleon is the first of three co-defendants to be tried and is charged with two counts of murder with allegations for committing multiple murders for financial gain. If convicted, she faces a possible sentence of 15 years to life in prison.

The Honorable Judge Frank Fasel granted a motion today to sever Jennifer Deleon's trial from that of her husband, Skylar Deleon, 26, and John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 40, both of Long Beach. The Orange County District Attorney is seeking the death penalty on Skylar Deleon and Kennedy.

Motions are scheduled to begin Monday, October 30th, 2006, and Opening statements are expected to begin Monday, November 6, 2006 at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-35, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana, California.

In November 2004, Thomas and Jackie Hawks placed an advertisement for their 55-foot boat named "Well Deserved" for $440,000. They wanted to spend more time with their new grandchild in Arizona. Jennifer Deleon, Skylar Deleon, Kennedy, Alonso Machain, 22, Pico Rivera, and Myron Gardner Sr., 33, Long Beach, are accused of participating in the murder of the Hawks to take their boat and life savings.

Skylar Deleon and Machain are accused of staking out the boat and the victims on November 6th. Jennifer Deleon is accused of gaining the trust of the Hawks by bringing her 9-month old baby to meet the Hawks on November 9th.

Gardner is accused of recruiting Kennedy, a well documented, hard-core, Los Angeles gang member. On November 15th, Skylar Deleon, Machain, and Kennedy are accused of taking the boat out of the harbor, overpowering the Hawks, forcing them to sign the transfer of title documents, handcuffing and tying them to the anchor, and drowning them.

Skylar and Jennifer Deleon are accused of cleaning the boat with bleach and destroying evidence and personal items belonging to the Hawks. They are accused of getting papers signed by the Hawks' notarized with backdates. The Deleons are accused of trying to take money out of the Hawks bank account in Arizona and placing it in a bank account in Mexico. The Deleons and Machain are accused of trying to create evidence the Hawks were moving to Mexico after they were murdered.

On January 16, 2005, Skylar Deleon was arrested while he was trying to leave for Mexico. Machain was arrested on March 2, 2005, Gardner was arrested the next day, Kennedy was arrested a week later, and Jennifer Deleon was arrested on April 8, 2005. Skylar Deleon was charged with a "Strike" from a 2003 residential burglary case. Kennedy was charged with a "Strike" from a 1988 attempted murder case.

During the preliminary examination held in 2005, defendant Jennifer Deleon laughed during the hearing while the grieving Hawks family watched.

Skylar Deleon, charged with murdering an Arizona couple at sea, tried to cut off his ####### with a razor blade while in Orange County Men’s Central Jail awaiting trial, sheriff’s officials said today.

Deleon, 29, was hospitalized after the March 13 incident. He had his ####### reattached and was returned to jail the next day, said Damon Micalizzi, a spokesman from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

“Somehow he got a hold of a razor blade and tried to saw off his #######, but didn’t complete the job,†Micalizzi said.

Jail officials don’t know how Deleon got the razor, which could have been brought into the jail, Micalizzi said. Hand razors are provided to inmates for shaving but they are modified to prevent the blade from being removed, he said.

“We do know there was a lot of blood and it was quite a scene. But from what I know, he didn’t finish his task and maybe it was too painful and that made him stop,†Micalizzi said.

At the time, Deleon was in a mental health ward at the jail in Santa Ana. He did not have a cellmate.

Deleon’s trial is set for Aug. 25.

Prosecutors have said they will seek the death penalty against Deleon for the 2004 murders of Jackie and Thomas Hawks of Prescott, Ariz.

The couple, trying to sell their yacht, took Deleon and three other men on a test cruise of their 55-foot yacht off the Southern California coast, authorities have said.

Prosecutors said Deleon and the others forced the couple to sign transfer-of-title and power-of-attorney documents, then chained them to an anchor and tossed them overboard, alive, off Newport Beach. They are presumed to have drowned. Their bodies have never been found.

Deleon’s wife, Jennifer, was convicted in the crime. She was sentenced in October to two consecutive life terms in prison without the possibility of parole for participating in the plot to kill the retired couple.

One of the many reasons I don't agree with the death penalty. Cruel and unusual punishment for the mother too.
