Lovecraft never wrote a Necronomicon - his stories are often bookended by fictional quotes but there was never an actual book. Some other authors have taken it upon themselves to put it together - but it has nothing to do with Lovecraft. Part of the reason HPL's fiction creates such an effective atmosphere is because it is presented as fact. The references to forgotten books are a part of that.
