I-864, joint sponsors, and taxes

Hi all. My husband (Scottish) is in the process of getting ready for the interview in London. I'm trying to get the documents ready for the I-864.

My parents are going to be joint sponsors. We will also be living with them for a little while after he gets here.

I know that I, as his primary sponsor, must fill out an I-864. But what do my parents fill out? Do they fill out an I-864 as well or I-864 A?

Also, they filed their taxes jointly. When I fill out the form, do I put both of their names or just one of them? Do I get both of them to sign the form or just one of them? And can I put their combined income, as that is how they filed their taxes.

The petitioner fills out an I-864. Your parents should fill out the I-864A each. Make sure that you include them in the household size. I think that would be #21 letter "g". Then don't forget to include their joint tax returns for the last year, employment letters and their recent paystubs.

This is different to what jhcruz18 said but when we did ours.. my husband (primary sponsor) filled out an I-864, his dad (joint sponsor) filled out an I-864 and his mum (household member of joint sponsor) filled out an I-864A. They filed their taxes jointly too and the only supporting documents they attached were copies of their US passport biographic page and their W-4s for the previous year

I would really recommend that you read the instructions for the I-864.

Your parents would only fill out the I-864A if you have the same principal residence as them. I assume, as you are posting in the DCF forum, that you are living in Scotland or England? Therefore it is unlikely you have the same principal residence as them.

If this is the case they should fill out the I-864.

If you decide to use them both as sponsors - they each need to fill out an I-864. If you only need one, they will have to separate their income on the I-864 and provide documents to support those figures - as well as the tax returns or transcripts.

Your parents (one of them) will fill in the I-864; and I-864A if they are using the income of other members of the household to qualify (as in your mom is counting your dad's income or viceversa)

Oh ok, it's a lot clearer to me now.

I am living in NY with my parents. We did DCF when I was still living in Scotland, but I moved back home ahead of him.

I guess I can just use my dad's income as his income is more than enough to cover it all.
