"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

I don't know.....

I have views/opinions about all the money being put into finding cures for diseases, but will vocalize them to only few people, hehe.

The debate about 'overspending' on looking for cures and solutions for Aids has been going on for years.

The article also mentions that Aids is in decline everywhere except Africa. As long as this disease still exists in poorer countries the toll will still be tremendous and will still get media attention - and money.

As they also mention:

In Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda and elsewhere, donations for HIV projects routinely outstrip the entire national health budgets.

In a 2006 report, Rwandan officials noted a "gross misallocation of resources" in health: $47 million went to HIV, $18 million went to malaria, the country's biggest killer, and $1 million went to childhood illnesses.

As long as western country media continues to hammer home the message of Aids, these countries have no hope of attracting dollars for treatment and/or cures for things like malaria and pneumonia.

(Roger)England argues that closing UNAIDS would free up its $200 million US annual budget for other health problems such as pneumonia, which kills more children every year than AIDS, malaria and measles combined.

It would also be great if some of these other problems could get some attention and dollars. I don't think it has to be an either/or thing - i'm sure that all could be funded.
