PatNa, lynn&al, Congratulations for receiving Welcome letters! Hope to receive one too=)

I'm a little bit nervous before the interview. Hope to understand everything=) I don't have problems in speaking English, but it would be the first time in such a formal place.

I think I have enough proofs: bank statements, tax returns, phone bill, health and car insurance, netflix, canceled check, bill from the water delivery company, and 2 photo albums: i have near 30 photos of our wedding, and maybe a 50-70 pictures of us together.

Next 2 days I will make copies of all documents, and we are ready=)

The only my concern before the interview: I don't have a copy of hubby's employment letter which we sent with Affidavit package. Now he is unemployed. Hope it wouldn't be a problem.

We were approved=))))))))))))))))))

It was quiet easy=) We only gave him our proofs (he kept copies which I made yesterday) The only copy which I forgot to make it was our ID cards.

Immigration Officer was speaking English badly. He has a strong accent. So even my hubby (US citizen) hardy understood him.

I just got home after the interview and found Card Production Ordered notice in my email.

I also thought that we were approved before the interview, because he had printed paper that we are approved before we came there.

Good Luck to Josh.Fitzmaurice(they didn't have the interview yet), AOSfiler13 and Anonymous NY(they don't know decision)!

Remind me please (been a while) about advanced parole...

Okay we got married, received perm resident card, received advanced parole document(2), received work authorization card, got name changed on SS Card.

How does interntional travel work now?

I think I remember that all we (she) needs to do is:

Buy a round trip ticket out of US and back - fly - stay - come back to US. Upon hitting the USCIS Desk at the point of entry she'll simply present her Perm Resident Card, Thai Passport, Advanced Parole Letter and that's it right. Bob's your uncle... "welcome back to the US Mrs."

Do you suggest that she bring her work authorization card and her social security card as well (couldn't hurt right)?

Our Visa Journey

07/29/07 ---- Mailed I-129F

08/25/07 --- Check finally cashed (8/27 I should be able to see the R number on the back).

08/27/07 --- NOA1 Arrives from CSC and I create my account profile on the USCIS.Gov web-site (the clock starts)!!!

02/05/08 --- After 191 days NOA2 (Approval) comes at last!!!!

2/14/08 --- NVC sends letter saying that it's on the way to the US Embassy in Bangkok

2/25/08 --- She receives Packet 3 from the Embassy

3/29/08 --- She receives Packet 4 with interview date (July 11th).

3/30/08 --- I e-mail the Embassy asking to make the date earlier because I've already got our tickets for June 13th!!!

5/6/08 --- No help from the Embassy. Rebooked tickets and vacation till September.

5/21/08 --- Embassy calls her and moves interview to May 27th!!!!! You have got to be kidding me!!!

9/21/08 --- POE San Francisco!!!!

12/8/08 --- Married!!!!

12/15/08 --- Mail AOS + AP + EAD package to Chicago

12/28/08 --- Come back from vacation and find AOS/AP/EAD NOA 1 and Bio App notices in the mailbox!!!

1/13/09 --- Bio Appt

4/22/09 --- AOS Interview "APPROVED"!!!

3/04/2011 --- OUR BABY IS BORN... We have a son!!!!!

3/10/2011 --- Mail I-751 application to lift conditions on residency

3/12/2011 --- I-751 Package received by CSC

You need only to have the Green Card and passport.

You don't need EAD at all. You need to destroy it. As to the advanced parole you needed it only when you were waiting for a green card.

Green Card serves as an advance parole for a short trips and as an EAD.

If you are going on a long trip, you need to apply for an advanced parole again.

If you are going on a long trip, you need to apply for an advanced parole again.

When does a short trip become a long trip? I mean that is sort of an arbitrary term isn't it? She is going for about 7 weeks to visit her mom who she hasn't seen in a year now. Her mom is old(ish) and she wants to take her to the doctor for a heart exam etc.

Thoughts?

Or... even better... is there something on the USCIS website about length of allowed stay out of the country while on a Permanent Resident card?

Or... even better... is there something on the USCIS website about length of allowed stay out of the country while on a Permanent Resident card?

Oh here it is... I thought to search the USCIS site after I posted.

"International Travel

A Permanent Resident of the United States can travel freely outside of the US. A passport from the country of citizenship is normally all that is needed. To reenter the US a Permanent Resident normally needs to present the green card (Permanent Resident Card, Form I-551) for readmission. A reentry permit is needed for reentry for trips greater than one year but less than two years in duration."

So it looks like for a 7 week trip all she needs is her passport and her green card.
