Hi all!

Alastair had his bio appt today at 2pm in Hicksville was really quick and painless. no traffic on the LIE which is always a plus! arrived a half hour early sat in the carpark for a few cos we didnt want to be too early. there was only 3 other people in the office so really no wait, but now the waiting begins again for us hopefully EAD will come soon so we can get him a social and onto the checking acct/state ID ect... and then the fun of looking for work. I told him he can have my job since I hate it so much. my turn to hang around the house for a year or so :P

wishing you all good luck on the rest of your journeys

Lynn & Al

Congratulations to everyone who got their EAD/ AP!

Olesea, I also got my AP over the weekend :) but still no news on the EAD yet. FBI could not locate my record at all when I called - but my attorney said I do not have to worry about it and suggested I bring it up during the AOS interview later.

Anonymous - NOOOOOT!

Damn, that really sucks!! You sound like you guys were so organized too. I have a question though, why do you worry about travelling with AP?

I hope you get a speedy approval!

thanks for the wishes, JillA.

I don't know... the immigration specialist who filed my application warned: DO NOT leave the country before an approval!

he said there are cases where officers at the POEs don't even understand what an AP is. I mean, why risk going abroad after all we already went through? I want this to be over, you know?...

I understand what you mean, I can't believe that happened to you today. What rotten luck, after all this waiting too. I'm sure that they say 60 days that is normal, I bet it doesn't take that long at all.

I wish you are right. Thing is, the guy was kind of a tough one. Apparently HE is in charge of our case, cause I had to send the correct document to his attention. And if he says 60 days, oh well, maybe he means it... :(

woot! hey all as you know Al had biometrics yesterday finally! still cant believe we had to wait so long for that appt! Apparently CRIS is indeed back up and running because I checked the status today and both EAD and AOS was touched yesterday, not only was EAD touched but card production was ordered! We are doing a little happy dance

mimigrant- How horrible for you to have to go through all that and then be stopped only because of a translation, it sounds as though you did really well in the interview so fingers crossed the "60 days" is just a standard response and once the correct translation is received you can be approved with no further interview/surprises

First off congrats Soancika+Brian for getting your GC and to all the others who just got their EADs and APs.

I have a few questions I would like to get feedback on if anyone has any knowledge so here goes...

My wife has survived the first round of layoffs at her work in December, but now there are talks of budget cuts again and she has a bad feeling that she would be quite possibly one of the people laid off in her department. We haven't received an interview letter yet, but suppose she does get laid off and hasn't found a new job by the time we have our interview, what exactly would our options be? Would going to the interview with a new I-864 with a co-sponsor be enough? Or would the USCIS require her to hold her job at this point and not allow us to use a co-sponsor in our case? Just wanted to get prepared for the worst.

Ajay

ajay... if I understand what you're saying I've got the same concern. I'm surprised more of us here aren't talking about the USC side of the visajourney relationship getting laid-off.

I don't understand what you are saying here "would the uscis require her to hold her job at this point". What do you mean "hold her job". If she gets let go from her current job and is unemployed then she has no job.

I wonder about options as well as I HAVE LOST my job!!

Since our interview is in 5 weeks and our EAD has just arrived I'm a bit concerned about how our file is going to look. We went to the social security office yesterday to get her name changed and even though we've had the EAD for over a week they still could not verify it on the computer and I was told that they would have to got through the manual verification process and it could take a couple of weeks. Now I understand this and was prepared for it back when we applied for the number in the first place so we waited but now I feel we NEED it ASAP. I can't get her a State ID card w/out a social security card that has the same name we are trying to get on the State ID card. I can go to the bank now and get her added to a joint account and should be able to get her added to the utility bill and I've got the receipt from the local community college where she is taking English as a Second Language class (that's in her married name and sent to "our" address). But I really wanted to have the State issued ID card and Social Security card in hand for the interview.

However beyond that "little" stuff I'm way more concerned about $$$ I have enough cash on-hand to support us for just over 9 months while I try to find a new job. But things in my field (auto manufacturing) are REALLY bad... I've run into a few people I used to work with that were let go last July and they are still not working!!! Personally I'm thinking that I want to set a quit point date that leaves us with enough cash to move to Thailand. Then I'll put all my stuff in storage at my sisters place (what I don't sell anyway), sign over a power of attorney with her, send the keys to the bank and get on a plane. We could live rather comfortably in Bangkok for a year on $10K

I plan on going to the interview with:

1. all the paper work to support the income I had

2. my current bank statements showing my cash position

3. very detailed budget with 4 months of actual numbers supporting it.

4. plan showing how we'd manage if I took a job at 1/2 what I used to earn

Thoughts???
