I am very new to this. Can somebody please tell me what I am suppose to do after I've received my approval letter? I've received it since Oct 2005 and I don't know if I should go ahead and file my I485. Please tell me what's the next step and is it too soon to file? :help:

Thanks guys!!

Okay what I was trying to explain was,

I filed on April 16,2004

got my reciept on April 19,2004

got my approval letter on October 30,2005

Now I've been waiting ever since. My father (who is a US citizen) filed for me. What is the next step, am I suppose to go ahead and file my I485 ? What should I do next?

No, you don't need an I-485 because that's only for K1/K2 and K3/K4 visas.

Since you're in a totally different category you still have a long way to go because you need to wait for a visa number. Since you say your petition was approved already, it's probably at the NVC right now waiting for a visa number which will take at least another 6-8 years of waiting depending on your status.

Check out the DOS Visa Bulletin.

FAMILY-SPONSORED PREFERENCES

First: Unmarried Sons and Daughters of Citizens: 23,400 plus any numbers not required for fourth preference. 22FEB02

Third: Married Sons and Daughters of Citizens: 23,400, plus any numbers not required by first and second preferences. 22MAY00
