The end doesn't always justify the means, and certainly there is nothing sound about a policy that condemns not only the terrorist but all the terrorist's family, friends and neighbours.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

It's sound. Deal with it.

If its sound - then presumably we should have carpet bombed all those Iraqi cities, rather than trying to flush out all those insurgents hiding amid the civilian populations...

And I thought the balance of world peace was already starting to look a little shaky...

Of course the reasoning you are using here is not unlike one of the rationales trotted out to justify owning a gun for self defense - because once you or a loved one gets robbed or raped (and it will inevitably happen you know - because we only deal in certainties here) you'll slap yourself for being so stupid that you didn't see it coming...

Of course - what tends to happen is that fear, loss and anger invariably put people at their worst and its often then that they are most prone to extreme ideas that they wouldn't ordinarily consider.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Again, it's easy to talk about fear, loss and anger when you're not personally involved.

When your own friends and family members start dying around you, you'll be the first one

to say "#### them, do what you have to to make it stop".

Yes - but that doesn't prove anything.

Sometimes you have to break some eggs to make an omelette.

Being cool-headed doesn't accomplish that - what's "better" for one country does not always work for another.

I'm not saying it's the be-all and end-all solution, but if it helps prevent even a single attack, it's totally worth it.

That's not exactly something you can 'measure'

Demolishing the homes of terrorists' families has been Israel's policy for some time now,

and it's been very effective. It deters potential terrorists from carrying out attacks,

fearing harsh consequences for their family.

It *is* collective punishment and "illegal under international law" and whatever blah blah blah,

but it's effective.

You eeeevil Zionist!

Mafia style.

I'm sure that's what some victims of collateral wartime damage/casualties are thinking too.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Yes - that would be Leo Strauss talking. How constitutions are symbolic and should be repealed if its deemed necessary. Needless to say its something I don't believe in.

On that other point if I were a general in the military and my entire family were wiped out by the enemy I would quite likely be relieved of duty.

Indeed. However, it's somewhat duplicitous to be the 'head boy' of the world and go around making omelets in everyone else's pans.

I don't believe in repealing constitutions either. The home demolition policy does not violate

the constitutional rights of Israeli citizens, only those of foreign invaders.

Who is the 'head boy of the world'?
