N-400 December filers

I got a VM from USCIS (the new standard for incompetence) today informing me that they canceled my appointment for tomorrow because they do not have my file.

To say that I am pissed or up set is an understatement at this point, considering that they had the last two months to get the file from wherever it is.

She left her number and her name and I can assure you that she will be getting an ear full from me tomorrow morning when I return her call.

When IO left me a voice message she stated that my file was not ready, later on it I found out that my name check was not completed. It seems to me there is profiling going on.

I am sorry NigerLA.... I am reading your entry, and I am so pissed off! This is umbelievable.

@ so2008, they will never admit it, but I am sure there is profiling. Otherwise, some of the things make no sense...In other word, if there is no profiling, why name check is taking longer for the people of the same regions of the World?

I am very glad to hear about the successes, and saddened about the cancellations and delays!

I have a question for those who have had their interviews. Do the IOs verbally ask you to answer each question in the application, or do they just glance at all the answers you gave and ask for clarification, etc. when necessary? Neither is a problem -- I'd just like to know what to expect. Thanks, and good luck to everyone who isn't done yet!

Mine (who turned out to be, looking at the form, the district adjudications supervisor) verbally asked me every question on the form, making notes along the way... and then went through the additional paperwork for my modified oath.

My Interview today

Appointment is 1:20

Arrived at 1 at San Jose USCIS

The place is like a ghost town..pretty empty

I was asked to go to Room 219

There are around six people waiting for interview

While I was waiting

An officer came out with an Indian woman and asked to see her husband. He told him that his wife failed the civics test

The reason? She studied the OLD test. People pls double check that you are studying the NEW test!!!

I was called in at around 1:45

He is a no-nonsense extremely stern officer. No small talk. Got all my identification and passport and asked me to swear that I tell the truth.

He was very diligent on checking every single trip on my passport

Asked all questions in the application

Asked me if I have filed my taxes. I said a few weeks ago ....He just asked if I owed any taxes. I said no and he did not ask to see any proof.

Then he asked me 6 questions:

Who was brought here as slaves

Why did the colonist fight the British

What is the name of vice president

Who makes laws

What is the supreme law of the land

How many amendments are there

Stumbled on two of them out of nerves but did finally get them right.

He asked me to read: Who can vote

Then asked me to write Citizens can vote

He asked me to sign the application form and on the 2 photos I submitted.

He kept looking through my file but eventually gave me the sheet that says Congratulations!

Asked about the Oath and all he said was that I would received notice within 90 days.

Thanks everyone for all your posts...looking forward to the upcoming Oath :)

Congratulations.

Hopefully you get your Oath letter soon! I feel so lucky to have gotten my letter the same day! It means I have a date on the Calendar I can plan for!

It's so much easier waiting when you know how long you're waiting.

Regards,

Jamie

Hi Stella08, I gave all four answers for question 2, I am not sure if I needed to or not, I was a little nervous so I blurted out the whole thing!

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Thanks for your reply! I had my interview already but I was curious how many answers they wanted. But you are like me, I just blurted all the answers out, too (different questions though).

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you'll get your oath letter soon. I had to wait about 2 1/2 weeks for mine.

I already sent two photos do I need 2 more???

Now I am getting all stressed out about what I need to take :crying::crying::crying:

You shouldn't need any pictures. But I had extras at home and so I took them with me, just in case.

I will bring extra pictures if I were you. I doesnt hurt to have something ready just in case the needs arise. Sometimes, they reject the picture you sent with your application for so many reasons (head too big, pic too grainy, not the right measurement etc)..

1. Call USCIS: 1-800-375-5283

2. Press Options 1-2-3 in the phone tree

3. Tell the first operator you reached that you applied for citizenship more than 30 days ago and have not received a notice yet. Don't tell them anything else about your case process

4. The operator will then transfer you to an immigration officer who can look up your case and tell you if an oath date has been set yet or not.

Well my attempt at this did not go well... I got transferred but then when I gave them the case number they told me the usual junk about they received my case in December, it had not been 7 months, they could not tell me any other information and wondered how I had been transferred to begin with!

I guess I will revert to being extra patient or try an InfoPass but I don't want to gamble driving all the way there to be told the same thing.

Ok... I gave in. As I have Friday off work for Good Friday I decided that I would make an InfoPass appointment (I was surprised USCIS is open on Friday). If nothing else I can have a fun trip to Cincinnati with my wife.

Hope your Infopass goes well Ptrober. I just got off the phone with the officer at the NYC office apparently it is the same lady who is going to interview me. As upset as I was (I think they set me up) she was really nice and understanding. She apologized non-stop and promised to personally call me to reschedule the interview with my choice of dates and time slots to accomodate me.

She gave me her number and asked me to keep in touch with her in a few weeks if I don't hear from her. I wish you all the best with your interviews and hope this journey ends quickly. ;)

I'll keep you all posted, hopefully something happens before the month is over.

I called again today to see if maybe they scheduled the oath. Looks like I'm still on the waiting list to be scheduled. The immigration officer told me that I'll receive an oath letter within three to six months! Sounded like a stock answer though. I'm hoping an oath letter will arrive some time next week.

Just as I predicted, the issue is not the name check. I just spoke to USCIS deputy director who transferred me to somebody to take care of my case. The IO took my A# and case number and put me on hold for 5 min. She returned back and asked me if I had lived in different state before, I told her I lived in IL for a while. She stated although my N400 right now in the local office but that was not the case for my A-file which was still in IL when they scheduled my interview. I told her I have been told that my Name check was not cleared. She stated, no the name check is fine and I will be scheduled for interview very soon (within a week or two). Let us hope/pretend for now that statement is true
