My husband is working and living in Spain. He was terribly disturbed the other day and told me how everyone in Spain thinks all moroccans are terrorist or theivs... I told him Insha'allah when he is here all they'll think is he is a terroist.

You see in Spain moroccans are theives and terroists, in Southern California all mexicans are illegals, in Oregon everyone is a pot head. So it doesn't just stop at Islam it can be lumped in every group every state, every religion. So when people ask me a question like that I typically remind them of my 11 yrs military experience and what have you done for your country (standing in front of them in hijab)? Then if i pick up on say if they're Itallian I remind them of not to long ago any Itallian in NY was considered mofia. It's not fun being lumped into a catagory you know you are and Allah knows who you are. No need to worry further

My aunt who is a law professor is extremely predjudiced against muslims and I think it more comes from a tour in Saudi Arabia ( she was a lt col in the Army during the gulf war) and has alot of students married to muslims ( americans) and she just is very pragmatic. She thinks that islam is harmful to women and that muslim women are opressed. Thats her opinion ( but shes only been to SAUDI ARABIA) and thats been her only exposure to a muslim country. I think if I had only been to SAUDI or interacted with unhappily married college students, maybe I would be the same. My mom on the other hand has travelled to Morocco, Egypt and Jordan. Shes just mad at my husband , not Islam. My aunt saw first hand women stoned and that mess and I dont think that will ever be removed from her mind..

Ayms girl, She is another pork pusher ( ONE TIME SERVED NOTHING TO EAT THAT DIDNT HAVE HAM IN IT)even the beans...

My Irish relatives still consider Italians the devil so it doesnt matter what group you are in.. there are haters( ALOT HAD TO DO WITH MY FAVORITE UNCLE MARRIED AN ITALIAN AND SHE WAS VERY EMOTIONAL AND HER FAMILY HATED MINE)

They were alot more fun than my family and I always wished I was italian too.. LOL. IRISH CATHOLIC NUNS AND SPINSTERS...thats my gang..

I remember the time i saw a young girl who refused the choice her father had for her in a husband she was told she was not allowed to go to college but this wonderful match was made for her she still refused. She was pulled out of the house and her hijab and most of her clothes were removed to show the family's shame.... I was there. I kept yelling for someone to show me in the Qu'ran where this is ... Where???? The father came to me yelling a sgt had to hold me back I yelled at him show me sir if you know where to find it? He looked at me stunned... I asked again and said here.. I have a Qu'ran if you need it show me! He starred at me and started calming down I looked at him and told him Sir you are the one representing Islam to all of these American soldiers and look what you've just done to your duaghter, your country and your religion. Then i was "escorted away" I don't know what happend to that girl but I know I got torn up by my command up one end and down the other.

My thoughts are don't confuse stupidity by a person to represent the entire populace.

ok bringing back things i rather forget gotta go get some tea now.

Ironic that the mumbai thing happened 24-48 hours before my family informed me that if I moved to a Muslim country, they'd never visit me or my future kids. (as if they visit me anyways on US soil, they never have, nor do they call out of the blue for anything as I am nonexistent to them). But my family is dead set agaisnt me moving there to be with my husband if I must.

Then the Mumbai thing happened. GREEAAATTTT

I am so not going to see my family for a while. I don't want them to stand in the way and talk me outt of staying with my husband due to their prejudice. They've stood in my way before in many things, not ever helping me.

Not this time.

first i think to generalize the last incident with what ever would be out of line there has been a lot of problems between hindu and muslim in india for many many years and i would say the terrorism is pretty equal from both parties......but i know that many use it as a reason to go off on any muslim we were in the parking lot day before thanks giving and a man came and knocked on our window why dont u f in muslims go back to ur own country and get out of decent folks country.......hmmm my mom was born here wonder what country he would like for her to go back to?..... any time that something happens that involves muslim the western world comes out in force and decides all muslim are evil ..........kind of like back in the day when all blacks were not considered human

My family was similar to yours, wahrania, during Thanksgiving but I have to say it was much less muslim bashing than usual now that Usama is here.

What I don't get is that even as of this morning the news (bbc, cnn, fox) had said that they did not yet identify the attackers so why on THANKSGIVING was everyone spewing that they were muslims? I mean sure maybe they were but I just had to note how unbelievable it was that the news was calling them Islamic terorrists while simultaneously stating that they did not know who they were. Kinda strange if you ask me.

because everytime something goes boom, it is always the Muslims everyone blames because they think that only Muslims can go boom.

Look at the Oklahoma City bombing for example. Everyone thought that it was an arab, or at least I did back then. But it was a white man, born and raised American!

But with 9/11 everyone has forgotten that

The media has big influence on how things are viewed. The media started this whole view. Why cant they just leave religion out and refer to these people for what they are; terrorist. IMO, a terrorist has no right to claim any religion. These are sick minded people who interpret things to justify their acts in their own minds and that is all there is to it.

My family knows better than to start that conversation with me. :D

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

Well I admit I haven't watched those channels today...but I read on the India times website days ago that a Muslim group claimed responsibility. And that the bodies of the dead terrorists were in fact Muslims... so...........................

Again, discussing Islam may not be applicable in your case because you are jewish married to another jewish person..

My family has been total opposite, they told me to go live in Jordan with sofyan and not to come home until he could come with me, and that is what I did.. We now live with my dad and he has stopped eating pork out of respect for sofyan. At family gathering we use Turkey products for everything bc sofyan doesnt eat pork and my cousins husband doesnt eat beef. My aunts and uncles just flew to Patna India on saturday for the wedding of my cousin. I will say, If my family was that judgemental about my spouse, I think that would change the way I felt about my family.
