A couple of questions

I'm a UK citizen applying for a K1 visa, and my London embassy interview, if all goes smoothly.. is due around February. I want to be able to go back to the US to be with my boyfriend as soon as possible after being granted my fiancee visa.. and was wondering if I could do anything right now to help speed this along at all? The things I'm worried about are below:

Someone mentioned that I need a police/background check done, and that it takes months... is this necessary, and if so, how long should it take? Also, how would I go about doing this?

When I leave the UK, is there anybody I need to inform.. or any forms I need to fill in/etc?

Since I'm having such a miserable time by myself in the UK, it would be really bad if I found out I had to wait longer than need be. :(

Thank you in advance for all replies, they are greatly appreciated. :star:

Only thing you can do is to get prepared for your interview so you don't end up on AR.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!

The police/background check is mandatory for every applicant. It does not take months, if you are a UK citizen and you have lived in UK all your life, all you have to do is apply for a police certificate, the details on how to do that are here: http://www.acpo.police.uk/certificates.asp. The process is not long, and it certainly does not take months, maybe a week or two on average. And the best time to apply for the police certificate is as close to your interview date as possible, although they are valid for up to a period of 12 months, its better to have them recent, come interview time.

And what do you mean by when you leave the UK? Do you mean when you leave the UK with your K-1 visa? You do not need to inform anyone personally, once you receive your K-1 visa, you are free to travel to the USA without further action required by you, the K-1 visa is valid for a one-time entry to the USA for the purposes to marry your fiance, and should be used within the 6 month time that the K-1 is valid.

I strongly advise you to please fill in your time line, it will give you a better picture of where you are in the process, and also give you an idea of when to expect approval, etc.

Besides your fiance (the petitioner) filing the I-129F successfully, having received NOA1, all you can do is wait for NOA2, I am sorry there is nothing that you can do to hurry the process. After NOA2, the interview and process goes by much faster (usually) compared to the wait time you will endure in expecting the NOA2.

One more thing: You will find lots of information on this website and the forums within, browse around and you will find the answers to most, if not all of your questions.

Good Luck!

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to speed up the process. Some have been very lucky and had NOA2 within a month of NOA1, but the average wait seems to be 4months.

The UK police check only takes about 2weeks and it lasts 12months from issue.

Your timeline when filled in will allow you to see an estimated adjudication time for NOA2.

Good luck and I hope you have a speedy approval.
