Well I am going to do some EID things with my little girl and my son usually comes along to things at peoples houses (even though I think hed rather be elsewhere than cutting up sheep) Anyway. I am going to do a little of both holidays. I dont really do too much for the holidays but my son wants a tree so I am going to get one for him. If my husband comes back in a few weeks it will be after eid so at least I wont be saddled with alot of cooking. I am trying to be a little bit more creative this year with the holidays to kind of gloss over other stuff going on..

But anyway.. What are you planning to do to celebrate both holidays.. One less than the other.. one more than the other? Both minimised or blowing the doors out for both. I always consider myself kind of lucky with a muslim household for the last 7 years and then christmas vicariously through my mom

Hi...

This year the holidays are just kaput. It was Habibi's first Thanksgiving, and it was just one of those years when everything was kind of off and not much fun. We are bummed about Eid b/c we were hoping to go back to Morocco for a week or so, but my husband hasn't gotten his AP yet, so nix that idea. We are trying to figure out how to have a nice Eid ourselves in New York. Any ideas? i've asked around some Muslim colleagues, but they all seem to tone it down just to a nice lunch or something... We really want to do something proper, but so far no plans.

We might get our first Christmas tree, too... that at least, i hope is fun because i've never had one in my adult life.

well if he doesnt come back I am going to this moroccan girls house near my house whos daughter plays with mine.. that would be super fun anyway..

You know my 3 and 1/2 year old is such a blessing ...she makes me and my 13 year old crack up constantly. She has decided she wants to be a cheerleader and she dances moroccan... she learned over at my Moroccan girlfriends house and they videotaped her too. It was freaking hilarious... she was swinging her hair around with her neck

That sounds like fun... you should definitely make a point to go there, be it for Eid or sometime soon.

Yup I partake in both, bcause i have a blended american family and society. If one gives up thier whole persona and background and basis then they will set themselves up for disenchantment. look up for spiritual guidance and need. not to your side. Not going to any christain candle light services though.

I'm vegetarian but will be making lamb chops for Wael for Eid. Christmas will be a standing rib roast and turkey.

We will celebrate Christmas as we have done for 3 yrs, beginning with putting the tree up on my birthday Dec 18!

He really gets into the spirit of the season and loves all that is Christmas.

We put our tree up yesterday. I was actually suprised at the way my husband handled it all because before he got here he was adamant that this year he'd put up with having a tree but he wasn't so sure about the following years; his point being he didn't want to disrupt the kids during his first year here. Well when he walked in after working the night shift he was all "ooooh and aaaaah" at the lights, etc. We don't have any religious things up like the baby Jesus, etc. so maybe that's why he's cool with it.

It's very difficult because the kids are Christian but at the same time so many things about Christmas have nothing at all to do with the birth of Christ.

Not sure what we're doing for Eid. Probably just going to the mosque and then having a nice dinner at home. :)

When is EID, officially??? i know it is somewhere around our Christmas or New Year's and I was in Morocco one time during that time. We had a goat and sheep on our rooftop...one day all bleating and noisy and the next day, silence of the lambs...well

we dont have any muslim or moroccan friends nearby to share EID with...if there is something I can do, I will ask my husband but since he is here he is more than happy to learn our traditions and we will celebrate Christmas..of course.

I will get a tree and gifts and bake goodies and do the normal things we do to celebrate with our children..

I know he is excited and never had holidays on such a great scale. He is looking forward to having some gifts from Santa under the tree...I hope he knows that Santa treated me early to my gift this year....Him being here with me!:luv:

well Ive had this question on my mind before so now I will throw it out here. Why would muslims have a problem celebrating the birth of Jesus if you consider him to be a great prophet? At least you have an idea of when his bday is or even tho its technically not Dec 25th but its still the time people all over the world celebrate the birth of Jesus. Celebrating Life is always a good thing right? Why not add Him to His own bday celebration?
