I asked a friend here who works for Human Resources about immigrants applying for welfare and she said they don't allow GC holders to apply.

Is US government just worried once the immigrant gets their US citizenship?

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking but if you are asking whether a non-US citizen can apply, then no. They are worried in general about all imigrants in the USA regardless of what visa is allowing you to live here (GC and non-GC holders). The applicant has not paid taxes for very long if at all so they don't really want them to receive benefits they have no yet earned. Hence, the need for a sponsor.

Is that what you meant?

For one I've heard illegal immigrants have babies in US hospitals and everything is paid for. Just wondered who pays for it?

Can legal immigrants get the same trip?

Legal immigrants have less rights than the illegals. USCIS finds it easier to harass the legal people than to do anything about the illegals. Who pays? Probably the taxpayer like we do on everything else.

It's not that they have everything paid for as such, it's that you cannot deny service to a pregnant woman in a USA hospital. After the bay is borne and a bill has to be sent, who do they send it to? An illegal immigrant most likely does not have insurance and they probably don't give you their real address and since there is not a SS #, the hospital can't even report it to the credit bureau who can then sue the non-paying customer for what is due.

In the end the taxpayers and those who donate to hospitals foot the bill...it's not fair but that seems to be the rights illegal immigrants have in the US of A!!!

In my opinion they should deliver the baby, make sure everyone is healthy and then ship them home. But that doesn't seem to be a very popular opinion.

The illegals actually have a better deal than a US citizen with no insurance.

Yes, we, the taxpayers pay for it...

And continue to - no child will be denied medical services born in the US - medicare/medicade is billed (at 240% above normal cost) and hence their services are funded by the taxpayer. It is also the way illegal immigrants get food stamps - through the US born child. and housing aid, as well as AFDC.

Really unfair to make us guarantee no public funds for 10 years/40 quarters!!!!!

USCIS choses the path of least resistance. The legals are much easier to control. The lawbreakers are rewarded, those who follow the rules get bent over with no vaseline.

Obama will get immigration reform passed and all the illegals can stay and have an easy path to citizenship. Meanwhile the rest of us take it in the back.

Immigration wasn't a campaign issue for either candidate. Obama sided with Ted Kennedy on the last reform bill, which was more lenient that what the Bush team proposed.

There are plenty of GC holders receiving welfare benefits. It depends on the circumstance.

I remembered those who came from Refugee Camps around the world being received by the US became recipients. And, many of them were victims to US bombing their homeland, after-math of US permanently disabling their ability to work by being just a war casualty, etc...

They have gone to courts, and the US government granted them benefits. Actually, all of them received benefits after they went to court.

So, it depends on the circumstance.
