Fueled by rising unemployment and food prices, the number of Americans on food stamps is poised to exceed 30 million for the first time this month, surpassing the historic high set in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina.

...

"We soon will have the most food stamps recipients in the history of our country," said Jim Weill, president of the Food Research and Action Center, a D.C.-based anti-hunger policy organization.

...

To qualify for the food stamp program ... recipients must have an income below 130 percent of the federal poverty level, or less than $27,564 for a family of four.

I've heard that as well. Yesterday we drove by the Mercer Island food bank (yup, I didn't even know there was one ) and there was a long line. I personally (L) food bank peoples.- Last Christmas I was there - yes, in line- hanging out with the peepz: we sang, cracked jokes, and had a fun time while waiting for our goodies. I tell you, these folks were not grumpy sad b1tching. They were grateful and happy --- amd ohmygod! all of them -most- had one or two jobs, like moi.

We did. When I think about it now, it was a bit heartbreaking. Thinking of the misconceptions about folks who go to food banks as being leaches on the system when they have jobs -sometimes 2 or 3-.

Pants.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.
