Hi everyone,

Our question today is when she goes to interview at the Embassy in Bangkok, do I need to be there and go with her. I realize I wouldn't be sitting with her during the actual interview, but do I need to go with her to the embassy, or does it not make a difference?

Thanks, Jim

According to the Embassy Info (on VJ) the fiancé/spouse can not attend so for moral support outside the embassy (I presume) it'd be up to you. If you happen to be in the neighborhood that is.

You being in country with her at the time, help bolter the idea you have an ongoing bona fide relationship. If there, have her show your passport to the Consular Officer as evidence you're visiting.

Bona fides are often the biggest hurdle in the visa process.

Excellent idea about the passport. I plan to be there for moral support in Bangkok for her. I am planning to go as far as I can. It is my understanding that I can't go to the window or interview with her, but I think I can sit in the waiting area with her. I hear the wait can be hours. When asked how many times he has visited, she can say "counting today/this trip? or just the other visits..." to the officer.

I don't know what has changed since July, if anything in Bangkok. My son did go with his wife. They talked to the prescreener together and then waited for nearly five hours for her interview. He went up to the window with her and the CO said "We appreciate you being here, but we just want to talk to your wife". Notice the assumption that she was his wife. Sitting there alone for all of that time I imagine would have been very difficult for her. He was glad he went. She would have most likely been approved anyway, but morale support can't be underestimated.
