Thanks for this countdown thread MrsCat! You've posted some gorgeous pictures! Except for some stocking stuffers for Gene, and a small gift for my neighbour, I'm all finished shopping. I have Christmas baking to do, which I will finish up in a few days because I'm cutting WAY back in that department. My kids gifts were mailed on Monday, so I'm basically all done!

For those of you who now live in warm places that generally do not get snow- does it feel weird to you? Seeing all these Christmas decorations everywhere- and my favorite- Christmas lights on palm trees! :D

I used to live in a warm place that did not get snow. I miss it. The city I am about to book plane tickets to for Christmas---Calgary, Alberta---is currently at -20C with a big-a$$ snowstorm on the way (okay, it was at -20 last night when my sister-in-law called). One of my nicest Christmases ever was spent in Tucson, Arizona. It was 75 degrees and I drove halfway up the Mount Lemmon Highway to get a nice view of the solar eclipse from the Babat Duag overlook, then drove back to town to have a nice Christmas dinner with some friends of mine. The down side was that my dog and my friend's dog decided to show off their hunting prowess by bringing half a freshly killed desert jackrabbit to the house. Barfola! The dogs looked so proud of themselves, too.

Back to Christmas countdown: about to book flight to Calgary, husband will reserve rental car after I've booked the tickets. I reserved puppy-wuppy's spot at the kennel this morning. All we have to do is buy Christmas gifts for our nieces and my friend's 6-year-old daughter.

I should add, Tucson actually does get snow, it's just that if it snows in town, it usually melts by noon. It only stays on the ground all winter in the Catalina Mountains.

*Sigh!*

I live in Los Angeles, and i've always said that it's not natural for it to be 80-90F on X-mas day. Last year, Mel was here for X-mas and loved it. I've always dreamed of a "White Christmas" (even though i'm a bit of a scrooge)........ she tells me that i'm insane and that snow is overrated and aggrivating. It has snowed in Los Angeles two times in its history.

yeah it is kind of strange but where I lived in Canada we hardly got any snow.. it would snow maybe once or twice and the show would be gone in a few days.. so we never really had snow for Christmas but back in Manitoba where i was born, we always had snow every Christmas...

This is not my first Christmas in a warm climate, but this is my first official Christmas where its not a vacation. Its so weird to not have the Christmas lights twinkling off the white snow outside.

One person has a 30 foot palm tree in his yard and the lights are light all the way to the top and on every palm leaf on the top. It looks so cool! I should try to get a picture tonight.

I really miss the smell of cedar and pine though. They actually have tree lots here in Hawaii - however you can only imagine how good the trees look after taking 3 weeks to get shipped across the Atlantic. They smell so good though.

Carla, you're putting us to shame being nearly done everything. As for the pictures, I'm a good googler.

Sonoran, there is no worries about being off topic in this thread, its just Christmas spirit in general. Snow back home in Calgary is natural to reflect upon at Christmas time. Hope you two have an amazing time in Alberta and a warm chinook blows through on the 26th :)

Rob, I used to tell my husband that snow was way overrated too. :hehe: I told him that I was wrong yesterday and would love some snow for Christmas. So he's taking me to the top of Moana Loa (where there should be snow in a couple more weeks) and we're going sledding with some boogie boards on Christmas day. I have a feeling that every Canuck on this island is going to show up there for some reason.

today I bought some ornaments for the tree.. one is the really pretty butterfly that you can clip onto the branch.. that one is for Katelyn for last Christmas... and then I got two of those glass hand painted ornaments.. i love those... one is a train engine for Noah and the other is a snowman for Katelyn... I have decided I want to get them an ornament every year...

I remember my grandma (my dad's mom) had a whole bunch of those glass hand painted ones.... I wonder what happened to all her Christmas decorations...
