Relationships not for love, but for an easy Green Card

Are you being used/using someone for an easy Green Card?

  1. 1. Are you a US citizen who's in a loving relationship, or are you being used for an easy Green Card?

    • I've come to the conclusion that I'm just being used for an easy Green Card.

    • I think it's for love, but I've sometimes suspected that I'm being used for an easy Green Card.

    • I think my fiance/spouce is with me purely for love, I just happen to be a US citizen and he/she needs a Green Card in order to live with me here.

    • I am not a US citizen (vote for this option so as not to skew the poll, then vote honestly in the following poll question).

  2. 2. Are you a foreign national who's in a loving relationship, or are you using your American fiance/spouse so you can get an easy Green Card?

    • I'm not really in love, I'm just using my American fiance/spouse as an easy way to get a Green Card.

    • A little of both. I love my American fiance/spouse, but if we had to live in my home country and couldn't move to America, I probably wouldn't marry him/her.

    • I'm with my American fiance/spouse purely for love. I'm only getting a Green Card because I want to be with him/her, and he/she just happens to live in America.

The topic comes up on this forum from time to time, we've all heard the stories. The simple fact is that some people marry US citizens for an easy Green Card, not for love.

Let's have a poll on the subject. Being an anonymous Internet poll, your secrets are safe here.

Vote, and vote honestly.

And even though my wife is 15 and I'm 62, I think she really loves me.

I only married Chris for the benefits that accompany living in the US. Blah - Canada - what a hole that place was!

I wanted Jordanian citizenship

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

Well, yeah- I mean, obviously if you're from some crappy little insignificant country I can see how you might be predisposed with the desire to get out.

I'm certainly also interested to hear what the folks from real countries have to say about this, as well.

The elephant in the room. Refreshing to see such an honest poll here.

I've always been curious why some beneficiaries are so eager to bring their family members to the USA asap because these family members can't get health care and jobs are not easy to come by and they're leaving behind a life they are familiar with to become dependent on others here in the USA. I don't know where to post this question without offending everyone.

Obviously it happens, but there's plenty of inconvenience for the non-USC's out there coming to the US. Many face language barriers, give up good steady jobs for crappy ones here, give up seeing their families and friends, and everything familiar to them.

I know my SO wouldn't come to the US if not for me. While the financial burden is mostly mine at this point, he's the one giving up everything else. It's easy to lose perspective of that while you're half a world apart. I can't say I could give up everything he will have to- including pretty much everything he owns. I'm lucky I found such a wonderful, loving man; he just happened to be German.

It's a totally valid point though. There's no doubt in mine (or anybody else that's honest's) mind that it's rife. These people really don't help themselves when they put pictures up either. I remember viewing the pics of a couple where the female beneficiary was from a certain Asian country (by far the worst offenders, btw) and she looked to be early twenties (or possibly even younger) and he was at least late 50's. One of the captions read, "me and my love - what more could I want?" and I remember thinking to myself, hmmmmmmm right, when you and your girlfriends get together and ask each other what your dream man would be like, I'm sure your answer is, "oooooooooohh a fat, old, pasty, American please...........yaaaaaaaaaaay!"

I'm not sure who I find more contemptable: the gold digging beneficiaries, or the stupidly gullible elderly petitioners who genuinely seem to think these chancers are in love with them - sad.

I'm marrying for love. I'm from Atlantic Canada, and he's from Wisconsin. I would have rathered he came here, but he loves his job, my job-I could take it or leave it. It made more sense financially, for me to go there. I am hoping eventually we can move back to Canada.

When I met my fiance his next posting was going to be Italy and I went: "Hells yeah, I would marry the devil himself to go live in Italy for 3 year" then life happened, and Italy did not happen and I found out I would need to move to America and I went: "Ahhhh #######! You mean I have to give up exotic international travel to go live in AMERICA?"

But honestly I would live in a hut in Africa with him if that is what was required.

I'm with my American fiance/spouse purely for love of course. There is no chance he would stay and life in the UK as he is military so that's why I'm going there. If you told me two years ago that I would be marrying an American and moving to the US I probably would have told you to stop messing around. And to be honest why would a British citizen abuse an American citizen for a greencard?

it's funny how i vowed to never ever date an american guy or worse, engaged to/marry an american!!! it's because of all the hassle of getting visas and also, it's basically half way round the world for me!!! however, things didn't happen that way apparently. lol... and it seems like i end up with my lovely, gorgeous, sweet fiance who is an american... and we're going strong for almost 3 years now :) there's definitely ups and downs but we manage like everyone else here :)

so yeah, conclusion is, i'm with him because i love him and vice versa :)
