We have lots of news :) Maarten received his visa on Wednesday, 2 days after the interview. We were most happy, because our plan A was for him to fly to US this Sunday. We bought a ticket after we found out about the interview date, but were prepared to postpone the flight. Also, Maarten cancelled his rent (with backup plan to move to his parents for a bit) and his job knew about the move for the last half a year.

So... he is currently on the plane to San Francisco! I am going to pick him up in about 5 hours.   We were a bit confused yesterday, because Netherlands changed time and US will change next Sunday. Maarten arrived to airport earlier, but the plane departed on new time, and it will land 1 hour later than usual in San Francisco.

Congratulations to everyone who has received their visas!

Johnny and I still do not have an interview date... It has almost been 8 weeks since it got to the Amsterdam Consulate from NVC. Apparently they are still waiting on Johnny's police report from when he lived here in the US for seven years. I don't expect anything soon because we are dealing, once again, with an office within the US and they seem to take their sweet time getting any information together.

Hello all,

I would like to hear some experiences from people that arrived on a k-1 visa at New York JFK airport or any other airports. What do I expect? Is it like waiting in line for the (tourist visa) or are they gonna ask more questions?

I'm arriving at 8pm. What time should Bill arrive there to pick me up? Like how long will it take for me to get out and be able to step in the car? This is probably most important since parking at JFK is very expensive. I don't want him to have to wait for me for hours but I also do not want to have to wait there too long for him. So is 8.30 or 9.00pm a good time? Or anyone has other suggestions.

Now I have the "do not open" envelop. Do I also give them the big envelop with the Xray photo in it? Also the "do not open" envelop can only be opened by an immigration officer... How can I know if that person that wants to open it is an immigration officer?

Like last year, they asked me questions before going on the plane. Is there anything I need to do? Just show them the visa?

Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions, I'm just so afraid something will go wrong and I have to go back again. I don't think I'll survive being without Bill any longer. I posted this in the moving here forum but no one replyed

Thanks in advance.

Denise

hi Denise,

you just enter the normal queue for visitors to the US. They don't need the envelop with the Xray photo, only the sealed envelop and your passport. But you probably want to keep all important documents in your carry-on luggage anyway. In the plane the flight attendants will give you the white I-94 form to fill in (of course also the customs form about declaring goods). The person in the nice uniform that you will see at the end of the queue is an immigration officer. He/she will open the envelop with your file and go through it. They will put the I-94 in your passport and keep the envelop with its contents. For me this all happened quite fast (couple of minutes, probably about 5min) and the persons behind me in the queue just had to wait a bit longer than otherwise. I arrived two days ago in San Francisco, and am happy with how quickly and smooth this step went.

Hope this helps.

Maarten

We are back from the weekend in San Francisco and we are married!!!!

We are still planning our wedding in April, so that our families and friends can come from Netherlands and Ukraine and Poland (very exciting!). We went to San Francisco City Hall on Friday, and had a photographer take some cool photos in the streets of San Francisco after the ceremony. We don't have those photos yet. Here is a photo our friend took with his phone just before the ceremony:

Thanks so much for the wishes!

We are close to Campbell, west part of San Jose. It's about 15 miles from you -- we are almost neighbors :) Maybe we could meet when you move here :)

Where are you in the process? Do you have the date for the interview?
