So another quick question, before I go and spend 60 euros when I don't really have to.

For the social security number, the instructions say that I need 2 pieces of ID. But everyone says that they only needed their passport and an I-94 (not sure about the number?) that you get online since recently.

So should I get an ID kaart as well or will my passport + that paper be enough to apply for a SSN?

Not sure if it's just this way in the state of NJ, but I went to the SSN office last Monday and took my passport and the printed I-94 that I filled out online. The lady typed stuff for about half an hour and then told me I'd get it in 2-4 weeks :) No cost, no problems, no other ID required.

I know this is old-ish, but no, the consulate in Amsterdam will not get your VOG for you anymore. You have to order it yourself.

My husband needs to order his VOG but I'm unclear on when we should do it.

My NOA2 just got mailed to me yesterday. I figure it's going to be 6 weeks before I get a case number.

Should we wait until the file is shipped to NVC, received at NVC, case number is assigned or some other point? It expires after a few months doesn't it?

You get a case numbers days after you get your NOA2. And it will be shipped to the consulate soon after. From the moment you get your NOA2 to the interview date is roughly 5 to 6 weeks. Mine was about exactly 2 months from the day we got our NOA2 to my interview date.

He can request his VoG now and have it ready, I had mine months prior to my interview date.

Yeah, my flight leaves in less than 24 hours and my suitcase is open with random clothes in it and...other stuff. I've been preparing for a while so I don't really have much to bring with me. I kept leaving things behind each time I would visit so I didn't have to pack much on my final trip there.

Thanks! It's great, still a weird feeling though. I still get that sense of "we have to do this and that before I leave again!" then realize I'm not leaving this time.

Got my SSN which was really easy, the lady had no idea what she was doing so I was kind of telling her what to do, that was funny in a weird way :P

Getting married Dec 8th and then on to do the AOS. I really hope that something happens and I get my work permit sooner than the estimates show. As happy as I am being here, sitting at home alone till 5 PM every day is driving me crazy :(

Yeah. It's not like I'm miserable, it's just somewhat boring. I started the deck of cards push-up challenge out of boredom daily alongside my other work out routine. It kills some time.

I've also been studying/getting familiar with the text books for my driver's license theory exam.

The one thing that is having a toll on me is the weather. Being from The Netherlands we're used to cold and rain and snow and we get the hotness sometimes too. But here in Massachusetts...well, they get it as well.

All of them in an hour, lol. My body is so confused, one minute it's warm and the other it's snowing.

Ah you get use to it ;) I'm in Alabama and well it gets really hot here and they use air conditioning, so in the houses it's always cold. But well you get use to it, I'm here now since April and I don't feel it anymore I kinda like it now haha. So I bet you will get use to the Massachusetts weather :). Yea I need to learn for my driver license too, I know the rules most of it now since I have been driving with my husband. I can't wait to get it..I have to wait for my green card -_- They were very mean here.. when I tried to apply for a license. My husband grandmother was with me so She didn't know much about the k1 and all. My husband said next time he is going with me and he will have a talk with them :D(L) hihi. Anyways I hope you can get it soon!

You'll get used to the new england weather. Living in mass for 17 months now and this seems to be normal. 5 inches of snow today and 40 degrees warmer tomorrow. A few tips for driving. Look into the rules about penalties and amount of drinking etc. They'll assume your 16 and drink. Before you do the road test look take a look on ebay what you have to do for the 3 way turn, parking etc. I have my dutch license for almost 19 years but failed the first time because i drove 38 in a 35 zone. Fun part i could drive legally with my dutch drivers license so i still could drive.

If you have any questions about mass written en road test let me know.

I'm studying for my NJ license too, but the rules are so different here! And I'm a little scared to drive on the roads here because in NL it's so small and there's less road rage  Other than that am settling in fine. We got married 14 November and just got back from our Hawaii honeymoon yesterday ^_^ Now I'm trying to look into the legalities, like AOS and changing my name and getting a bank account. They won't let me get one till I have a GC, so annoying! They said I have a 'lack of picture ID's'. Whatever.. I'm looking into other banks now.. :hehe:

I know in MA I am able to get a MassID. I quickly googled NJ for you and got this.

You need "6 points" to qualify for it, the PDF shows what you can bringand how many "points" it's worth. Quickly looking over it I saw that your foreign passport + the I-94 and your NOA2 are both 4 points each. It'll cost you 25 dollars but at least you'll have a valid photo ID to use from now on :D
