Cool to see other people get approved in the last couple of months.

We (Kirsten and myself (Pieter)) got approved halfway of October and have been waiting for packet no.3 for a month now.

Time for us to start calling I guess.

So far it's been 3 months in our journey. :).

Thank you Sarah for the packet 3 link. Checking that out.

It is all very exciting! Good luck! :) My fiancee and I sent it out on September 29th and got our approval today!!!!! Hope it'll go as fast for you guys!

- Britt

Congrats! That's really fast, I hope ours won't take too long either :) but with the holidays in tow I am preparing in a longer wait so hopefully I won't be disappointed when things take a while longer! I will be spending a month with him again within 3 weeks so that breaks the anxious waiting game :)

I hope the rest of your process won't take too long either and you two can be together ASAP :)

Good luck!

Hello everyone. I check in from time to time. It's time for Sinterklaas and I wanted to see what kind of advice the Dutch folks would have for me. My husband is Dutch.

I am not sure how you would file if you were living over in the Netherlands but you might check into direct consular filing and see if that would work - it's the fastest way. We had to wait for what seemed like forever to me. You might just look up your consulate and send them an email. They were very nice about answering my questions when we needed more information.

Well congratulations to all the new couples heading to the USA! I certainly hope that some day crossing international borders is as easy as crossing state lines inside the US. Until then, just take it a step at a time.

Hey guys,

So we got an email saying it's sent to the NVC now we wait, again! :) I have a couple of questions though:

I'm trying to prepare for package 3 already because somethings take forever to be mailed where i'm from. Is it okay if I do that though? I want to go and get my birth-certificate and my police records (I also take it that that is here named the VOG?) I'm not divorced nor am I a widow so do I check that mark on the checklist that I will be getting from the consulate? Can I already make an appointment for my medical? Like, basically, what all can I do before I even received Packet 3? :) Also, do I need multiple birth-certificates and VOGs? One more: it says we need the original I-129f forms but we sent them to the USCIS and we didn't make copies. My computer crashed so I have none of my files anymore, or do they get them and am I simply worrying about nothing?

Thanks guys, I know it's not really topic related but since there is Dutch citizens like myself in this topic I figured maybe I could bent the rules a little, tiny bit :)

As far as I know, you can't get your police certificate. The Consulate in Amsterdam will request them. It should be the VOG or Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag. https://www.justis.nl/producten/vog/ https://www.justis.nl/producten/vog/vog-aanvragen/index.aspx (But I might be wrong about this.)

As far as marital status, did you get a http://amsterdam.usconsulate.gov/affidavit_civil_status.html? ? I did, incase we were going to try to get married in the Netherlands. (Not realizing that they were only good for 3 months, and not the 6 months that we thought.) But I'm sure that that would suffice as proof that you were free to marry.

As far as the medical, I guess if you live close to Amsterdam that wouldn't be a problem. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong about this, please.) I know that when we had to go do something at the consulate (Like the CRBA's for our kids) we wound up coming up from Limburg the night before and staying in a hotel over night. That gets expensive very quickly. And keep in mind that the medical will expire.

But I'm not as far as you in the process yet, so please take the above with a grain of salt. That's just my interpretation of what I've read.

I honestly wouldn't worry too much though. The Consulate in Amsterdam is awesome. My husband and I have dealt with them a number of times over the past 9 years, and it's actually stunning how efficient a government agency can be when they want to be.

Hi,

I think we are on the same timeline with all of our work. Cool. Unfortunately we had to wait a long time for the I-134 otherwise we probably would have already scheduled the interview by now.

I've just send in the checklist confirmation so hopefully the consulate will send me the interview date soon. As far as I can tell (from reading the documents) you can only plan a medical exam when you have received your interview date but I guess other couples can confirm that.

Regarding the paperwork, we've made a copy of everything before we send it to the US.

Grtz,

Pieter

Ok, I double checked with the Consulate, and they said that you do, indeed have to order a VOG. They also said that they're going to remove the outdated information from their system so people won't be confused. ::)

Hallo everyone! We're not a Dutch/American couple but i once stayed in Amsterdam for more than a year and obviously im gonna need the Dutch PC or VOG. Just wanna know how long does it usually take for the applicant to receive the document from Justis? Anyone had experience getting one before? I applied online 3 weeks ago and i tried to follow up on it but didnt get any response from Justis. In the english instruction it says within 4weeks but there was one in dutch that says 8weeks. What did everyone do ticket wise? I am debating on just getting a return ticket and cancelling that. But I am afraid the costs will be significantly higher than if I were to get a one-way. The one way is about 2300 flying KLM. The return is about a thousand.

Getting a return flight is often cheaper, unless you really want to fly KLM it's also often cheaper with other airlines.
I would however cancel the return flight as soon as you get there.
There's been people that said they had run in to trouble because they bought a two-way ticket and never canceled and there's been some that said they had no trouble and never canceled.

But always better to play it on the safe side.

February 15th - sent package to Dallas. Took a long time to get to Dallas because of weather conditions and delays.

March 3rd - NOA1.

March 5th - Received alien registration number.

August 21st- NOA2.
September 8th - NVC received package and assigned case #
September 11th - Embassy received package.
September 16th - Received Packet 3.
September 17th - Sent packet 3 back.
September 23rd - Received packet 4.
October 14th - Medical.
October 21st - Interview. - Interview approved, visa granted!

November 1st - Moving to the U.S.

We bought a round-trip ticket for my husband when he came here on his K1. It's ridiculous to pay nearly 3x as much for a one-way flight. We just didn't use the return part of the ticket. Nothing bad happened to us. He flew here on KLM/Delta.

We also bought a round trip ticket because it was MUCH cheaper. We never let them know we weren't using it..never bothered to cancel it. They (the airlines) don't know who is immigrating or who is here on what kind of visa or not. It isn't their job to keep track of it. If you don't use the ticket, they just have an unused seat. The ONLY reason you might want to cancel it is if you could get that portion refunded or want to let them know they can resell your seat. Really NOT a problem if you don't though.
