Hi!

"We" are Dutch-American too. My husband is a US expat who has lived in The Netherlands for a few years. It's where we met and married. In the next 12 to 18 months we plan to move to the US, but we have to wait until his dealings with the Dutch government are all settled (inburgering, etc.) in case we ever want to come back. Once that is done, we plan to file for CR-1 (no DCF anymore, unfortunately) and emigrate.

I've been reading VJ for quite a while, but since we haven't started the actual process yet, I post rarely. Still, it's nice to have this massive source of information. :)

I have a blog!
My blog.

First date: May 31 2009
Moved in together: April 16 2011
Got married: November 25 2011

Sent I-130 (from abroad): November 5 2012
NOA 1: November 8 2012 (MSC / NBC)
NOA 2: January 2 2013

NVC case complete: April 15 2013
Interview date: June 25 2013
POE: ???

We've got our green card notification. Now we're doing the next big fun thing: taxes for the immigration year. Has anybody done Dutch taxes with the form that you have to mail away to get? "Form M" --- only available by sending a letter to an undisclosed address.

Yes, apparently it is a tax form you should get automatically if you have left the Netherlands. Presumably, yes, you are required to file taxes. ;)

I think the standard answer here is to read the guides to decide what process is best for you. You can't come here intending to get married on the VWP, and stay here. That's visa fraud. Look in the K-1 and CR-1 forums. You don't need a lawyer if you can read and follow instructions.

As I recall, its easier to move to the Netherlands than it is to move to the USA via marriage. What counts as "amazingly expensive" to you?

it IS easier to move to Holland vs moving to the USA so I'm not sure where you're coming from....

the only reason we didn't go that route is because I just don't know Dutch and I didn't feel like I'd be able to get a job to help out without knowing the language.

Ah yes... I have to learn Dutch so I can speak with some of the older family members. Hard to do on your own... I need more discipline. :D

Not sure what the job market is like there in general.

I know this thread hasn't been active for awhile, but I just wanted to drop by and say hello! My honey is going for his interview 8/21/12. Here's to hoping he's here by the first week of September!:luv:(F) Funny about the taxes issue - being in accounting I was just thinking about the fact I may actually need to hire someone to do our taxes this coming year! Eek! :o:unsure:

Hope to hear more later...(F)

Maybe I should update: We did eventually get the "Form M", which Dutch people fill out the year they leave. We even managed to file all our taxes ourselves! It just took a while...

Did anybody ever post hints on learning Dutch? That would be useful.
