Heya guys,

Haven't talked in this topic for quite a while. Finally married and life keeping busy. I hope everyone is doing oke and is with their loved one...

I got a question maybe some of you can answer me... Is there any way for me to take my husband to Holland and live there instead of here? I'm fearing I made a big mistake moving to the US compared to what I had in Holland. I love my husband very much but this is taking so much out of me I don't know if I can deal with it any longer...

Thank you for any help.

Sorry to hear you are not liking it in the US.

I will tell you, Johnny and I researched [heavily mind you] me moving to the Netherlands instead of him moving here first before we ever considered the US as an option. It is extremely difficult to try and move there rather than here, hence our overall decision for him to move here instead of me moving there. If you are not financially stable enough, able to get into a University that will give you a student visa, or capable of finding a job in the Netherlands it can be quite difficult. I'm pretty sure the financial requirement for a married couple is for the Dutch spouse to earn 1678 euros a month which is roughly 20,000 euros a year and that spouse has to already have at least a years contract with a company. And the application alone will cost you around 800 euros. Those issues alone were more than enough reason for Johnny and I to switch our plans and for him to move here. We were more concerned not so much about where we would be living [as that isn't as important] but about being together. Good luck to you on whatever decision you end up making; hope I was able to give you a little insight on how the immigration process and requirements would go if you were to move back to the Netherlands.

Not to mention if the spouse doesn't speak dutch, it is also a hinderance. I can understand a teeny bit of dutch, but not anywhere near well enough to get a job or even go grocery shopping.

Oh definitely. that is also a HUGE factor. I feel as though I would have a much harder time in the Netherlands than Johnny would here in the United States; he already has the advantage of speaking the language almost perfectly whereas I hardly know any Dutch.

Denise, is there any other way we can help?

I sure can understand giving up too much. I felt like that for a while also, but things are slowly getting better.

This isn't the Netherlands, where you are cared for from the crib to the grave.

And friends and family are far away, felt that when my Mom got very ill. But when it gets really bad I get on the phone with them.

For me I know it takes time to get adjusted to life here.

I am not making friends easily, but am getting there.

Not saying it will be the same for you. But no one ever said this would be easy and I read somewhere that with immigration, you go through a period of grieving over your life in the country you left.

Maybe that is what is going on? And it might get better at some point?

Maybe it helps when you talk with one of us who goes through the same?

It's pretty much the fact that Bill and I just found out that I'm pregnant (We have been using birthcontrol) and the doctors bills that we got today just brought our AOS money down to $0 again. I have never paid a penny for healthcare (Except for the montly insurance payment of 50 euro's) and it is very frightening to know that there's pretty much nothing we can do. Bill got laid off on his job and he has not been succesfull finding a new one.

I guess the hormones, the fear and everything just makes it all a lot worse.

Thank you for all your info, I do know there are many places in Holland where a foreigner can work even without knowing the language. (Think about all the polish, muslims and such in our country who have a job without knowing any of the language)

I think I'll have to look more into it. Any of your dutch husbands or wives know if there's a way to get dutch insurance work here in the US?

Thanks so much

Sorry to hear you guys are having such a hard time.

I hope you are, in spite of the problems, happy with your pregnancy?

Fear I am not much help, a Dutch insurance won't be possible unless you got a temporary one when you moved over. Those are for students and expats that will return to the Netherlands.

And also very expensive.

Will keep my fingers crossed for you guys, hope Bill finds a job soon.

DeniseBill- Congratulations on your pregnancy. I hope you are happy with the it?!

As for your questions about moving/ living in the Netherlands and insurance I can't help you, sorry.

I guess I am one of the very lucky Dutchies that has anything and everything and never had a problem with being homesick or not able to get insurance. Let me at least try to do some researche for you on how to get some sort of insurance because right now you really need that. When I find somthing I will post.

How far along do you think you are?

Well the reason why I had to go to the doctor is because there might be something wrong. I had bleedings and such (Not enough for it to be a miscarriage though), that's why we're having all these hospital bills. They're thinking it might be an ethopic pregnancy (Outside the uturus) so I haven't really got time to enjoy my pregnancy =\ Today I'll find out if the pregnancy is continueing or not. I guess not untill then I can enjoy it.

I've tried to find places that maybe able to help us out. Most are State Insurances, and those are not a go. Emergency Medicaid is there for Immigrants and even illegal aliens but that will only cover the delivery. Even without having to pay for the delivery we're still looking at a $2500 bill for all the visits...

It's not too fun, Especially since if it's a ethopic pregnancy, that is very dangerous for my uturus and my life. This should be a time that me and my husband should be enjoying our time together, but instead of that we're having all these problems coming towards us.

love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable;

love does not keep a record of wrongs;

love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth.

A question for the Dutch people out there.

Did you guys bring a birth certificate when the USC filled out the I-129F? Is that our ' geboorte akte'? And does anyone know how to get that?

Sorry, I can only answer your second question because I went the I-130 route instead of I-129. You can obtain a Dutch birth certificate only at the courthouse of where the birth was registered. Over the past few years many courthouses give you the option to obtain documents like that online. You will need your burgerservicenummer for that and it will be mailed to your address (don't forget to order the international version!).

You have to go to your town hall (Yes gemeentehuis) in the town/city you were born. You'll have to ask for a international birthcertificate. (Uitreksel uit het geboorteregister) I believe in my city it was 15 euro's.. And it was done in 5min ^^ Good luck

Yes, if you go to the town hall in Den Haag they will be able to get you the international birth certificate. And Denise is right....it cost my husband about 15 euros in Den Haag as well. Good Luck!
