A bit of a post ####### tonight compared to usual, but can anyone tell me how long a Canadian police clearance is valid for? I had read that they take forever to get, so I got mine a while ago just so I would already have it and not have a wait for the interview scheduling. I have seen some posts saying some country's clearances are good for 6 months and some for 1 year... well if ours are 6 months, I should probably get a new one at this point, I guess... mine is dated Aug. 15, and I have no NOA2 yet.

  • 7/7/08 -- I-129f sent
  • 7/9/08 -- I-129f received at CSC
  • 7/24/08 -- NOA1 (finally!)
  • 12/2/08 -- NOA2 (WOOT!!!!)
  • 12/8/08 -- received at NVC
  • 12/22/08 -- packet 3 (with packet 4 attachment instead of checklist :P)
  • 12/29/08 -- packet 3 sent back with bits and pieces that I pulled together to make up a packet 3
  • 1/5/09 -- actual packet 3 received, but found out by via e-mail that they were satisfied with what I had already provided
  • 2/10/09 -- found out via call to DoS that my interview is scheduled!
  • 3/16/09 -- interview!!!! APROVED!!!
  • 4/7/09 -- MOVE!!!!!!!!
Crossed at Detroit/Windsor Tunnel... pretty painless, about 45 minutes, inexperienced officer, asked for and received EA stamp
  • 4/13/09 -- Married in New Orleans!!!!!!!!
  • 5/30/09 -- Filed AOS/AP/EAD
  • 6/1/09 -- AOS etc received in Chicago

One year. I have to have one done every three years as a Scouter. It doesn't take that long. A week or so is what I've found.

March 13, 2009--Visa application handed to the post office.

March 16, 2009--Visa application received by Vermont Service Centre at 11:01 am. Let's hope that he actually put in everything he thought he did and they don't send it back to us!!

March 23, 2009--Got the whole package back. The cheque was apparently filled out incorrectly, thanks to the fact that his moronic flatmates helped him and instructed him wrong for the first cheque he ever filled out.

March 30, 2009--NOA1

August 12, 2009--Touched

September 1, 2009, received Package 1 from Montreal--but where is our NOA2???

Personally, I would wait to get a new police certificate until you get your NOA2. Police certificates in Canada are good for one year. At this point, once you get your NOA2 you'll enter the realm of NVC. Even if your new police certificate takes 1-2 weeks to get, that is about the time you may receive your first correspondence from NVC. Just my $0.02.

However as you are a K1 - in theory your application should whiz through NVC and on to the consulate. You probably won't need a new one, I would hold off, you are good with this one until August 2009 - so perhaps wait and see, you probably won't need a new one.
