So, why are we here then?

I'm here because I enjoy the different personalities and styles that exist in OT.

I'm pretty much the same way, but I still think it's stupid to dislike people you know only from a message board.

again I ask, is it it stupid to like people you know only from a message board?

Disliking takes so much more negative energy than liking. Positive energy adds more to life than negative energy. If liking someone you don't know adds to your life, that's a good thing. Expending negative energy on someone you don't know is draining, imo.

what if the person is content to live paycheck to paycheck?.. is there some law saying that we all have to be rich and rolling in money?

Marilyn,

That's a false dichotomy. I am not paycheck to paycheck by any stretch of the imagination but neither am I rolling in the good stuff.

I'll admit to being bemused by my ability to do so little and have such a great impact, tho.

You really shouldn't underestimate your ability to be very unlikable on this message-board, VW. It really is quite a skill.

It takes no skill to have others decide they don't like you because of words you post on a screen. That's a choice they make, not one forced upon them. At least 50% of that is their attitude toward the environment they attend.

You know your audience well, VW. You are skillful at pushing their buttons. This is probably a factor in your success in your professional life as well.

I think hatred creates much more negative energy then disliking someone or something... we all can't like everyone or everything...

At this point, even if you were rolling in it, admitting that would immediately put you into several of the "bad" categories listed above

Some hatred is a good thing. Hate and fear are incredibly good motivators. What kind of person doesn't hate anyone or anything? A person with no passion, you'd have to be dead inside.

I will take the compliment, and I'm moved to admit that I do sometimes take advantage of the power some give me to affect their emotional state. It's power given freely; I'm not above capitalizing on it.
