Got a call after my Medical....

Hi!

I'm looking for someone to calm me down...

I had my Medical Monday morning at Dr. Seiden's office in Toronto.

Everything went well, (as far as I could tell), they had to send off the blood tests though, and it takes 2 days for them to be ready so instead of having to come back to Toronto on Wednesday, I opted to have them Fedex it to me, should get it Thursday...

Anyways, while I was at work today I got a call from a Dr. Malcom on my home phone (I guess he works there too?) on my home phone asking me to call them. So now I'm all panicky! Of course by the time I got the message they were closed...so I have to wait until tomorrow to see what they want.

Can someone give me some ideas of why they would be calling? Has anyone else gotten a call after their Medical?

I'm mostly nervous because the Canadian Blood Services doesn't allow me to donate blood because when they tested my blood it gave a false positive for HIV/AIDS (they did a second, more indepth, test and assured me I don't have it...which I'm sure I don't. My mother had the same thing happen to her).

Can someone calm me down?!

Freaking!!

Thanks :(

Kerri

oh frazell..i really dont know what to say but calm down..it'll be alright.. maybe they just need more proof that you are not a a carrier..I felt the same way you're feeling bec when i went there for my medical, they sent me for a n echocardiogram bec I had a murmur in my heart and I have to wait for 2 months before I got my result..

in your case lets just hope it all turn out good...you'll be fine.but I know how hard it is not to think about it.. just relax..take a deep breath

Sorry doll. I'm sure that its nothing. Maybe like your last test you had a false positive. Maybe they'll ask for you to go in again and retake the test. I am sure that it'll be fine. The worst part is waiting and wondering what it could be.

I am sure this is no comfort, but by this time tomorrow, I bet you'll be 100% relieved and it was something small.

Hopefully its nothing....alot of doctors offices (I use to work for a GP and a OBGYN) won't leave messages on the machine other then to tell you to call...and we would leave messages to ask a patient to call,..and it would be just to tell them that the tests all came back fine. Keep your chin up!

Thanks for the support you guys!

More waiting... I hope its something easible fixable though

Nothing I can do I guess until the morning...grrr

I hope IF it's a false positive, that they atleast let me take another test! I'm such a paranoid person I start hearing the term "lifetime ban" run through my brain lol and figure that just when I think I'm moving to the states and it's all done, something will turn up that will push back my timeline

Just have to remind myself to breathe....it'll all be over tomorrow afternoon....

Well, they finally called me back... and I was right about it being the HIV test thing. He says they do a very general testing which picks up everyone with HIV, unfortunately it picks up alot other people too. So they have sent my blood for further testing which usually takes a week and a half (i'm so glad I did this medical way in advance of my December 18 interview)...if that test still doesn't give them a 100% negative result for HIV, then I will have to come down to Toronto for another blood sample and they will have to send it off for further testing again. The good news is, if they haven't got the 100% negative result still by my interview, I can still go to my interview and they will write me a deferral letter which basically means they will just pend my approval until they get that final 100% letter.

Atleast I can sleep better tonight :) He gave me the sense that this happens all the time. He said 19/20 times when they get an HIV positive hit, that it's just something stupid like this, so that helps.

Thanks for all the support!

Glad to know it was what you expected and that they have a plan of action that will give you the correct results soon. Since you already know it is a false positive it shouldn't be a problem with the more sophisticated test they're doing now. Good luck at the interview.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I'm glad they gave you lots of information about this happening to others and further tests they're going to do to make sure the test results are accurate. The waiting without information is the worst.

Please let us know how you make out with the other tests. We'll be thinking of you! (F)

Well, I was expecting to hear back from them by last Wednesday, but after still not hearing from them regarding the test results today (Tuesday following) I called them to see what was up. Left a message and they got back to me. The lady tells me "hmm, I don't have your results back yet...that's very odd....let me look into that for you" ....so now I'm waiting for more news. I hope they find it, and I hope I don't have to go back to Toronto for more blood tests (that's just annoying)...I'll keep you posted

*waits some more*

On the positive side,u can still goto the interview, and they just won't issue the visa until u get the medical, ya it sucks, but could be way worse! When u cal again tomorrow, just stress to the the importance of why you need it. They should already know, but may light a fire under the secretary's ###

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
