Anyone use a lawyer for a B1/B2??

Hola a todos...

Wondering if anyone has used a laywer for a tourist visa. I met with one today and....I don't know.

My fiance and I are canceling our K1 visa because we will stay longer here and get married in Colombia. But I want him to be able to visit the US and my family before we get married and so need to apply for a B1 visa.

I feel like a laywer could really help us, because I don't think my fiance could get a visitor visa otherwise (doesn't own propery, doesn't make millions of dollars, etc). But I am worried he will just get denied and we will waste a lot of money.

The lawyer sounds confident he can help, and it's a flat fee of $500 US.

I just don't want to get scammed and so I am wondering if anyone else has experience with this. :(

Thanks...

Not speaking from personal experience here - But the lawyer is ALWAYS going to sound confident that they can get it done - If you think your SO is denied based on not having the criteria, what difference do you think the lawyer can make?

Personally, I would try for it yourself and not bother to waste money on a lawyer - Your fiance is going to have a potential strike against him anyway since you already filed the K1 -

No, no and no. My ears are burning after reading, it makes my blood boil. A lawyer won't do any good when going to the US embassy for a tourist visa. Actually nobody can guarantee anything. All he or she can do is guide you and tell you what documentation to take along with him the day of the interview and that's it. It's up to the consul to either approve it or deny it and when it comes to a tourist visa there are no guarantees.

It might help to have enough money in a bank account, it might help to own property, it might help to have his own business, but then again, it might not. It's a gamble and paying a lawyer to "help" you will not increase or decrease your chances of getting it.

A visa applicant must overcome the presumption of intent to immigrate on there own..... A lawyer might be able to give advice on the types of evidence, but if none of that evidence exists, then the application is "doomed" with or without... A lawyer cannot make an otherwise unnaprovable application approvable...

A previous I-129F application with a signed "intent to marry" from the applicant is damming evidence if it comes out as a part of the tourist visa application process

YMMV

I agree with the other posters, if your fiance does not meet the qualifications for a B2, then he does not meet the qualifications. A lawyer does not change that.

Would there be a possibility of continuing with the K-1? You have already paid for it, stated your intention for marriage, and if you do not marry before 90 days would return to Colombia. If you married in the US you would simply return to Colombia without adjusting status (and not losing more money by applying for a B2 visa which is not a guarantee)

Lawyers are a waste of money unless you have a really hard case, but if it's a pretty simple truthful relationship I don't see the point to pay him 500 dlls. If he is not considered a risk, he will be given a tourist visa with or w/o lawyer. Save that money for your K-1 process and your GC fees, they are high.
