oh great, more predictions of civil war.

the russians are just projecting...hoping what happened to them happens to us too.

of course, half of this country doesn't consist of oppressed stans. silly ruski.

Wondering which country Florida ends up in? Me too.

 Well I have Alabama as an option too if I get my way.

Welcome to Hicktopia!

 no no, actually in the cities in AL there are tons of yuppies.

if the pattern is anything like in carolina or georgia, pockets of yuppies surrounded by miles and miles of scary ignorance *shudder*

and like in jersey and new york and pennsylvania?;)

My uncle, a NYC transit cop, tough tough New Yorker guy, is racist... So there! lol

 ignorance is so much more than just racism.

eta: oops i don't mean to trigger the civil war.. i love you guys down south :luv:

Ppl like me are in the weird position of feeling northern in the south. But i have also learned that certain stereotypes about places like AL are mostly wrong. :P well i love the north, but i know not all southerners will.

It cracks me up when Russians make predictions about the impending collapse of the

"American empire" when they are in much deeper than we are.

I guess the rhetoric goes back to the days of Stalin's "five-year plans" which were

supposed to help the Soviet economy "catch up with and outstrip" the United States.

RUSSIAN ANALYST PREDICTS DECLINE AND BREAKUP OF USA

Tue Nov 25 2008 09:04:22 ET

He predicted that the U.S. will break up into six parts - the Pacific coast, with its growing Chinese population; the South, with its Hispanics; Texas, where independence movements are on the rise; the Atlantic coast, with its distinct and separate mentality; five of the poorer central states with their large Native American populations; and the northern states, where the influence from Canada is strong.

He even suggested that "we could claim Alaska - it was only granted on lease, after all." Panarin, 60, is a professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has authored several books on information warfare.

This guy is a bit uneducated, or a bit fantasy oriented. There ain't that many chinese in California, or native Americans in the central states, or that much canadian influence in the north. America isn't a game on a Risk board. It is a country based on a constitution that prevents the states from seperating (except for texas, cause it was an incorporated republic).

Love to see them try to take Alaska.

The article is bullsh#t. BULL-SH#T. The dollar has been backed for fifty years by bullets and bombs!! Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!! Try to take Alaska - just try it

Alaska is FULL of American citizens that desparately need protection in the event of a Russian land-grab. The Russians took the same position in Georgia right?

I think they may have not considered one point. And a very important one. Alaskans are better armed than the rest of the free world's armies. I mean they might get as far as Unalaska, but after that, I'm pretty sure the villagers will ward them off with their Second Amendment Right.

And if the Second Amendment isn't scary enough, there's Sarah Palin.

Where will the eastern states go? I reckon the Russians will work their way across and down. We should ask the UK to take Virginia at least... I could have good bread again, and we could easily get a load of South London football yobs to come over here and kick the bejesus out of anyone claiming Russian ownership on US land.

I have no idea how accurate his predictions are but I am not in denial that things are going to get very bad. I don't really see the United States breaking apart but financial times are getting tougher every day and I am not too hopeful that this will turn around in a few months. The collapse of certain financial institutions and the big 3 auto makers will domino throughout our economy and have devastating consequences.

Like Charles, I am stocking up on the essentials and preparing for the worst. I only hope it does not come.

The economy is a global crisis, not just a U.S. one. If the U.S. were to ever secede chunks of the country it's in an internal, civil war like conflict. It makes no sense for Americans to lose solidarity in something that largely isn't (beyond the vague predictions of southern U.S. Republicans trying to steer the auto industry to the south) even remotely seen as some conflict between certain parts of the country. I just don't see the attitude, nor could I figure out who would be at conflict with who.

If you're stocking up and it isn't for some normal disaster preparedness, I think both you and charles are a bit paranoid.
