HI,

I am planning to visit India in Jan.We were checking with our travel agent for flight tickets,

and she said,if I am taking flights other than Air India - Biritish Airways example-I'll need a transit visa,

when we stop over in London.

Any idea why this will be required ?

also when i am travelling is it enough to carry my marriage license and the AP papers.

***Also my passport has my maiden name on it , LATA KARRA and my AP papers, has my husband's surname attached,

LATA KOTAPALLI , so in that case when the travel agent makes a booking for me , on which name should she do it ??

Passport Name or AP papers name ??

PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP.

Thanks so much,

book tickets in the passport name

I agree, book tickets using the name that's on the passport.

If you will be changing planes in Heathrow or Gatwick then, you don't need a transit visa BUT say, if you land in Heathrow and your next connecting flight is out of Gatwick or vice versa then you MUST have a transit visa..

So, while booking tickets make sure you are flying into and taking off from the same airport in London otherwise, you need a transit visa and also have a minimum of 4-5 hrs to go from one airport to another and pay on your own for transportation!

Your travel agent is wrong!....It doesn't matter which airline you fly, if you will be changing airports then, you need a transit visa.
