im asking in behalf of my grandfather, 80 years old who is scheduled to be interviewed this december. his visa category is IR5-parent of USC. he was a medic(doctor) in iran for 5 years. he helped wounded civilians during the civil war in iran in 1970's, i forgot the exact date because i wasnt even born at that time. my question is do we need to get a police certificate? it was in the NVC letter that the police cert. is unobtainable but i dont know if the US embassy in manila will require him to have it done.

thank you for the inputs.

Just hope that the USEM will give your grandfather a security clearance and eventually a US visa. As you probably know by now, the US has broken diplomatic relations well before you were born. Again, wishing your grandpa the best during his interview. :)

The following links may give you a better understanding of US-Iran relations.

thanks JR! my grandfather was granted a multiple 10yrs tourist visa. he was also questioned about his 5yrs stay in iran. I think he showed documents indicating he came there solely as a doctor.

well, I hope they will give him a visa! he's 80yo & deserve to live his remaining lives w/ his family.

Well that's good news! :) Seriously, I don't think the USEM nor the Dept. of Homeland Security will consider him a threat. Besides, he went there before the US broke off diplomatic relations with Iran in 1980. Again, wishing your grandpa the best in his upcoming interview. :)
