Yup. I know it's long, exhausting and stressful. With someone who will support me and love me through it and not spend all their time telling me that I'm worthless and don't deserve their time or that I'm a burden, though, this is a breeze. I LOVE filling out forms. Yes, I'm weird. This is the kind of thing I actually don't mind. Heck, I learned so much last year from the stupid mistakes I made (staying with that partner while my life was torn apart one little bit at a time, letting that partner leech off of my finances while I wasn't making enough for my own survival, etc) that I even see the value in that time. I'm MORE than ready to be evaluated by anyone they can throw at me and to answer all questions with my head held high and with full honesty.

I know, I know. It's long and hard and my head won't be held high at the end cause I'll be so tired. I don't mind. Exhaustion to get to a where I want to be, with someone who loves me and values me and wants to be with me (and vice versa--I love him to bits) is worth it. It's not pointless. It has an endpoint. It has a reason. It's like working hard to learn a very difficult composition. Your brain feels like it's dying, but when you finally get the notes right and you can feel it resounding in your chest, all the time you've spent working and slaving over it are finally worth it.

This process sounds, honestly, a LOT less stressful than the events of last year. I'm not worried about freaking out and having a meltdown again because this isn't some hopeless cycle of endless pain. It's a blister on my heel while I walk to the top of a mountain trail to take in the view.

March 16, 2009--Visa application received by Vermont Service Centre at 11:01 am. Let's hope that he actually put in everything he thought he did and they don't send it back to us!!

March 23, 2009--Got the whole package back. The cheque was apparently filled out incorrectly, thanks to the fact that his moronic flatmates helped him and instructed him wrong for the first cheque he ever filled out.

I wish you all the luck in the world on your visa journey and never be afraid to post a question! Chances are someone else will have the same question or someone has just gone through the same thing.

Start paying off your credit cards as soon as you can. I don't know how Canadian student loans work but you may be able to defer them longer if you can prove your looking for a job.

Good Luck again!!

TayL, I had $4,000 in CC debt and about $20,000 in student loans when I went through the K-1 process. It had no bearing on my petition. Neither did my medical history, which included multiple knee operations and a stroke.

Just so you know, any student loan programs ie. interest relief, etc. will cease to be available to you once you move to the US.

I actually had incredible news just a little while ago. I got a call last night with instructions to call back this evening.

I begin training at a CD/DVD place tomorrow evening. It's part time, for the Christmas season for right now, but it's better than a kick in the butt!

You are OK. Just get the co-sponsor to be sure.

As to any thought of not paying your credit card balances, as suggested by a smart-aleck here, we have a global credit card system and your creditors will haunt you once you fail to make a scheduled payment or two. It's how they do business.

that, and if you ever decide to move back to Canada, your credit will be screwed. ;)
