We were told that I have to register my car withing 20 days of entering US on K-1 visa and that I also have to have it insured at the same time. The problem is that we are getting married in 1,5 months from the moving date, and my fiance can't add me to his insurance until we are married. And to insure my car separately costs too much and I have to insure it for a minimum of a year.

In Canada, if you don't drive your car, it doesn't have to be insured. I am so confused. Does anyone know if I could keep Canadian insurance for a couple of months, but register it within 20 days in California. This doesn't make any sense to me, but I am not sure what should we do.

Thanks

The answer is no... you must have insurance that is in complance with California Laws, purchased from a agent that is licensed in California and from an insurance company that is licensed to provide insurance in California. Your Canadian insurance isn't going to do that.

Thanks Ziggy, I guess we'll just have to sign up for a year and spend that extra money to make sure everything is done in order.
