"You may submit one check or money order for both the application and biometric fees, for a total of $1010. Make the check or money order payable to U.S. Department of Homeland Security, (unless you live in Guam or the VI)."

Assuming you're adjusting status just for 1 person (spouse) and no children.

Yep I agree with karin and otto  Don't forget the U.S. in the order payable to U.S. Department of Homeland Security..Just thinking that this may also be the reason why checks with correct fee are being rejected...

Yes.. That's correct. One spouse. No children... A personal check payable to Department Of Homeland Security in the amount of $1010. They sent my entire application back less the cover letter. I guess I have to resend the application along with 2 money order tomorrow (1 for $930 and 1 for $80).

it should be just one check of 1010. i am afraid if you send two (930 and 80), they might reject you for the same stupid reason. i suggest you call them before you mail your applications out and double check your application for any possible errors. there should be any problems with regarding to "payable to dept of homeland security" i put " USCIS" on mine and i thought they would return mine , instead they simply just stamped " u.s department of homeland security" on the payable part....so....Double check your application and include another cover letter detailing exactly what you are sending to them.

"there shouldn't be any problems with regarding " i meant to write "Shouldn't" instead of "should"

I'm afraid that our papers will be rejected as well. I sent mine the same date as yours and 'til now I haven't received or heard anything from USCIS. I'm freaking out right now! Anyways, I've read one of the posted message incurred same problem as yours. But, I wanted to tell you that sometimes rejection has nothing to do with incorrect fees instead it is because of the wrong information that being filled in the application forms. There was one person has received a rejection letter because of the incoorect fees. He went for infopass and later figured that the reason for rejection was wrong date of birth.

yup i saw that post too. i think i read 2 cases of this already and they incorrectly wrote 2008 as year of birth, so uscis automatically gave them a wrong fee notice because biometrics fee should not be included for people below a certain age.

we used 1 check only with $1010 amount and had no problems with it.

goodluck!

I don't know why but they want you to write on check - U.S. Department of Homeland Security

Just to correct myself. It's made payable to "U.S. Department Of Homeland Security"

I'm going to redo the application tonight. It maybe also because of ACCO fasteners. When I did my K-3 application, USCIS allows ACCO fasteners but I read somewhere they don't like them anymore. But hey, thats another thing to add to the list why they reject my application.

My wife's application was rejected for the same thing the first go around. Finally, we figured out that we accidently put "2008" for her DOB than her actual DOB year. This caused USCIS to kick out her application for "Wrong Fee", since there would be no bio metrics fee (since a 2008 DOB would mean she was 0 years old).

As stupid as it sounds, USCIS did do this and it was not easy to figure it out. You can look at my posted messages for more information.

Good luck to you and sorry you're a having a problem. You will get it worked out, so don't get too frustrated.
