Reshma James tried to escape her marriage. She left her abusive husband and their California home to live with a relative in New Jersey, police said, and even took out a restraining order against the man.

But the document and the distance couldn't save her.

Just before noon Sunday, 27-year-old Joseph Pallipurath walked into St. Thomas Syrian Orthodox Knanaya Church in Clifton, confronted his 24-year-old wife in the vestibule and fatally shot her in the head, Clifton Detective Capt. Robert Rowan said.

Pallipurath also turned the gun on a 47-year-old Hawthorne woman who is James' cousin, and a 23-year-old Hawthorne man who tried to intervene, police said. Both were shot in the head and hospitalized in very critical condition, Rowan said.

...

He fled the church in a 2004 green soft-topped Jeep with California license plate 5JHD200, police said, and was believed to still have the silver handgun used in the shooting.

sad..and just wrong

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

oh my gGod. that is indeed terrible. :(

:D

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Reading this story got me thinking, how many times have people heard of a person carrying a gun saving the day. That is, if this hero had not been carrying a gun for protection the situation would have turned out worse. Now how many times do we hear and read about Americans defenselessly being shot dead.

We need to get the guns off the streets and out of the hands of anyone who is unstable. Most homicides relating to gun deaths are due to domestic violence or suicide. The thought that some John Wayne will save the day is a fantasy.

Gun licenses should be renewed yearly and require a new background and basic psychological test each time.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

i agree that there should be gun licenses that are regularly renewed for all owners of guns. obviously his restraining order would have come up in a background check on him. that doesn't mean he couldn't obtain a gun by other means though.

It is not the point though. I have been here nearly three years now and never seen a John Wayne comes and saves the day story, ever. Whereas a few times a week in this city alone I will see numerous stories about people being murdered or some sort of domestic dispute resulting in murder.

Hey I like guns too but am not going to kid my self in thinking that I will save the day. That is simply not reality. If a crook was to hold a gun to your spouses head, the second you try to draw your gun both you and her will be dead. That is the reality.

---------------

Saw this story on the local news. This was an Indian couple who apparently had a fallout after an arranged marriage.

um yes it has everything to do with it, since you pointed out "Gun licenses should be renewed yearly and require a new background and basic psychological test each time."

given that, if he didn't own the gun legally, what's the point of this observation?
