LONDON (AP) - A woman has told a British court she accidentally flushed her newborn down the toilet because she didn't realize she was giving birth.

Claire Jones says she knew she was pregnant from an affair with a colleague but thought the pain she suffered in the early hours of Dec. 28 was from diarrhea.

Jones told a coroner's court in Cardiff, Wales, on Monday that she only realized what had happened when she saw a foot in the toilet bowl.

She said she tried unsuccessfully to revive the baby and then put the body in the trunk of her car.

The corpse was found in Jones' vehicle after she was arrested. She was given a suspended sentence for concealing the baby's birth.

Maybe in an outhouse, but in a flush toilet? No way. Unless she dropped it in the first trimester, but wouldn't have lived anyway.

I watched that show it was very interesting to learn how someone can go through a whole pregnency and have no clue till the doctors tell them their in labour.

As for this women she knew she was pregnent so their is no excuse for what she did.

I've never been in labor but I have had a miscarriage. I think it's safe to say I would not compare the pain to diarrhea at all. She's a nut case and just didn't want the baby. Stupid @ss woman.

Back in the late 1960's one of my aunts thought she needed to use the bathroom and her baby just popped out and she had to pull him out of the toilet bowl. Two years later the same thing happened to her again and her daughter almost drowned. She wouldn't have lived if the next door neighbour, a nurse, hadn't been able to resuscitate her. Labour isn't always obvious and this is more common than most people realise. It's generally more of a risk with with later pregnancies as after giving birth to one or two the babies usually come out much more easily.

what was she thinking the whole months that her tummy is getting bigger?! a ball perhaps..

The article says she knew she was pregnant, she just didn't know she was in labour.

I'm not reading it again but doesn't it say she knew she was pregnant but didn't realize she was in labor?

A tragic story no matter how you look at it. (F)

Nah - with a mother like that, the child is better off in the toilet.

:o

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Pwwaaah! I'd never have gotten away with not knowing I was pregnant. I got kicked all the time! I mean, literally - you could see the little arms and leg flailing around in there like a flaming banshee! I expect every one of our children will be the way Josie was...we're both fairly active people and I guess that's what you get! Aurora and Devin haven't changed, and they're 7 and 5 respectively :D

Ahhh...I can't wait to be pregnant again. I'd so go for it if it had been enough time...
